“1000-Lb Roomies” is a new TLC series about two friends, Jasmine “Jaz” Wallace and Nesha Harris, who share an apartment and the desire to lose a lot of weight. In order to even begin their fitness journey, they first need to get honest with themselves about their physical reality.
In this week’s new episode, Jaz is visiting her doctor, Dr. Sarvenaz Nouri, with Nesha in tow, when she finds out that some of her 630 pounds must go in order to qualify for surgery. “I’m very scared. How many days I got left to be a parent? How many days I got left to be an auntie, a sister, a daughter, and a best friend?” Jaz says in an exclusive clip obtained by PEOPLE.
Jaz Needs to Commit to Her Weight Loss Journey

Jaz finds herself with her back to the wall because she has to be locked into her fitness journey, and is already losing weight before she can have surgical help. “Our goal is to help you to get you to surgery,” Dr. Nouri says in the clip. “For the surgery, I want you to be around 500 lbs, so you do need to lose about 130 lbs before surgery.”
Jaz isn’t necessarily feeling confident in her ability, and admits that she is nervous about failing, saying, “130 lbs in order for me to get this surgery, I feel like I can’t do it, that’s why I’m here.”
“If you don’t lose weight and if you don’t get the weight loss surgery to lose weight, you will not survive for that long,” Nouri warns.
Nesha Decides to Start Her Own Health Journey While Supporting Jaz
In the “1000-Lb Roomies” clip provided to PEOPLE, Dr. Nouri asks Nesha if she would like to join her friend Jaz on this journey to better health. Nesha admits that the last time she weighed herself, she was 425 lbs and, unlike Jaz, she has no interest in undergoing bariatric surgery.
“It’s something that I just never saw myself doing,” Nesha says. “I don’t know, I’m just not for it. But that could be our goal together. If you have to be on a certain diet, I’ll be on that diet with you. I got you.”
“Hearing that Jaz doesn’t have long to live is scary,” Nesha says. “I feel like once you hear it from a doctor, it really kind of just makes it that much more real. It hits you. It just hits you like a ton of bricks.”
“And whatever she has to do, I’m in full support,” she adds.
