Fans were thrilled when Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine decided to return as a coach for season 27 of “The Voice” six years after abruptly leaving the show. But according to a report from the U.S. Sun on May 31, 2025, he’s unlikely to be back anytime soon.
An unnamed insider told the outlet that although Levine enjoyed the experience overall, he didn’t realize how much he would miss the rapport he had with longtime coach Blake Shelton, who left the NBC series in 2023.
Insider Says Adam Levine Felt a ‘Void’ Coaching ‘The Voice’ in 2025
Levine, 48, was one of the original coaches on “The Voice,” launching the show in 2011 with Shelton, Christina Aguilera, and CeLo Green. After 16 seasons, he shocked fans when he abruptly left the show in 2019, telling media outlets including “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” that he wanted to spend more time with his family.
He announced his return to the series in June 2024, just before filming started on season 27 with Michael Bublé, John Legend, and first-time coach Kelsea Ballerini.
In January, Levine told E! Online, “I just felt like it was time. I had some time to reflect and do my thing and be with my family. I was ready to do it, then the stars aligned and here I am.”
But according to the insider who spoke with the U.S. Sun, Levine felt a “void” filming without the friendly, funny bickering and bantering he used to enjoy with Shelton, explaining, “Adam didn’t realize how much his experience was made by having Blake on set with him until this season when he had to film without him.”
The source continued, “He didn’t enjoy this season as much as he anticipated, but he definitely feels Blake’s void and misses him. That’s not to say he doesn’t like the other coaches this season, he does. But he didn’t have as much fun as he did in the past with his buddy Blake.”
Blake Shelton Has Moved On With Another Singing Competition on CBS

The U.S. Sun’s source told the outlet, “Adam’s dream would be to return with Blake again, he desperately misses that guy. It’d probably kill it with the ratings.”
But that’s not likely to happen anytime soon, given that Shelton will launch his own singing competition in the fall of 2025 on CBS, called “The Road.” Shelton announced in November that he’d partnered with “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan to develop the competition series, which follows aspiring country stars out on the road.
“No more shiny floors and studio audiences,” he said in a press release, clearly referring to his many years on “The Voice.”
No formal announcements about Levine’s future on “The Voice” have been made, but he won’t be part of season 28, which starts filming in July with Bublé, Snoop Dogg, Reba McEntire, and Niall Horan.
