Miley Cyrus is opening up about why she won’t be touring any time soon. “I do have the physical ability and I have the opportunity to tour,” she explained during an appearance on “Good Morning America.” “I wish I had the desire but I don’t.”
Cyrus also revealed a deeper reason why she would rather not spend time touring at this point. “It’s really hard to maintain sobriety on the road, which is a really important pillar of stability in my life,” the singer shared.
The former coach on “The Voice” also spoke about what she sees as a flaw in the music industry when it comes to touring musicians. “I also don’t think there is actually an infrastructure that supports artists,” she said.
Miley Cyrus Is Prioritizing Her Mental Wellness
Cyrus used a legendary musician as an example of how touring can take a toll. “There’s artists like Prince that are not here today that lived such a high intensity lifestyle on the road,” she said. Speaking on the effects of that lifestyle, the singer explained, “And not only losing their life, but losing their minds.”
For Cyrus, who recently released her ninth studio album “Something Beautiful” in May, keeping her wits about her is extremely important. “None of this that I create would ever be possible without the way that I think about things,” she shared, adding, “… I do think it’s really hard to keep mental wellness.”
The Grammy-winner went on to explain that the high artists can get from performing live is often followed by a low. “… you’re feeling a lot of love and then you totally crash at the end of the show.” She continued, “You start thinking that one person loving you is not enough, it needs to be 10,000, it needs to be 80,000 …”
Miley Cyrus Is Taking Good Care of Her Voice These Days
The “Flowers” singer noted that she’s always been aware of her “distinct voice.” “I always kind of sounded like this, but it’s aged along with me,” she said. In May, she revealed that the unique sound of her voice was the result of a medical issue that affects the vocal cords.
“I’ve gotten really used to working with what I’ve been given,” Cyrus said about her voice, explaining that she takes care of it with proper training. She also shared that she is aware of how “sacred” her instrument is and honors that by “giving myself boundaries …”
