Shye Roberts came in second place on Season 26 of “The Voice.” But the singer doesn’t hold a grudge. In fact, she performed a duet with winner Sofronio Vasquez in Vasquez’s hometown, Utica, New York, on June 14. Third-place winner Sydney Sterlace also made an appearance.
She and Vasquez will also perform at the Town Hall Theatre in New York City on July 19. With more live performances scheduled and plans for her new album, Roberts is excited about the future.
Shye Returns to Hometown to Headline Summer Music Festival
Roberts will be returning to her hometown of Glen Cove, New York, on July 6 to play at the Morgan Park Summer Music Festival. The longtime festival began in 1959 and takes place every Sunday at 7:00 pm throughout the summer.
Roberts moved to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, in 2023. But she’s been spending a lot of time in New York lately, appearing at last week’s Long Island Pride Festival, as well. She was the grand marshal. “Honestly, I’m just glad everyone is proud of me and celebrated with me as one of the grand marshals of their Pride parade,” she told the Lehigh Valley News.
New York’s LGBT Networks organize the parade. Before she became known to audiences all over the world on “The Voice,” Roberts won the LGBT Networks talent competition, “Got Big Talent,” in 2022.
“It feels strange after being gone for so long, from New York, to Pennsylvania, then Los Angeles, and now performing in New York again,” she said. “It’s honestly really nice to reconnect with the community and what started all of it in the first place.”
“The gay community means so much to me,” she said. “We’ve come a long way since the olden days, and I feel like we’re starting to make a difference. “We have the world finally understanding that we’ve always existed. We’re not taboo or a sin and will always exist.”
Shye Launched a Singing Contest: ‘Apparently Shye Sings for Free!’
Roberts was coached by Michael Bublé on the show and received praise from Snoop Dogg, who suggested she join his record label at one point. While that hasn’t happened, she has been working on a new album in her Bethlehem studio.
Roberts is also holding an online contest. Called “Apparently Shye sings for Free!” The winner will get a video call from Roberts, in which she’ll sing them their favorite song. Fans sign up through July 31.
While all of her upcoming events are in New York, she’d love to perform close to home. “As of right now, I don’t have any upcoming events in the Lehigh Valley, but if something came my way, I would be stoked to check out the offer and potentially perform. I love my Bethlehemians.”
