‘The Voice’ Coach Adam Levine Says He’ll ‘Never’ Sing 1 Song
In the video “Behind the Mic” for “The Voice,” the coaches sat down to chat a bit about their careers. John Legend, Michael Bublé, Ballerini, and Levine chatted about what inspired each of their musical journeys.
Bublé explained how watching performances of the Canadian national anthem at hockey games when he was a kid really made him want to be a singer. “I was like, a little kid, I was like 6 years old, and I would come home … and I just remember being in the shower and like, man, I wanted to be [national anthem singer] Richard Loney,” the crooner shared.
He added, “But it’s weird, because it was, like, my first ever … and people loved him. He did it for years. He’s one of those guys who … You know actually, he passed away and I went to his funeral and I told the story about how he impacted my life.”
“Have you ever sung the national anthem, Canadian or American?” Levine asked Bublé. The crooner noted that he has.
Levine confessed, “See, that scares the … That’s the one thing you’ll never see me do. I’ll never do it.”
Bublé remarked, “Never again,” while Ballerini noted, “Never have, never will.”
The crooner went on to explain how he did a doo wop version of “O Canada” and it didn’t go over well. “The announcer said, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, Elvis has left the building and we hope they never invite him back,” Bublé recalled.
