Kelly Clarkson prepared for a lovely family Christmas, but she made it clear the holiday was for just her and her two kids.
The former “American Idol” winner and “The Voice” coach made her intentions known via a video released ahead of the holiday. She sent a clear message that neither her ex-husband nor any potential new partner would be included in the family’s celebrations.
Kelly Clarkson’s Christmas Stockings Specifically Excluded a Romantic Partner
The statement came near the beginning of a video Clarkson shared on YouTube on December 18. The video, titled “When Christmas Comes Around… Again (Official Album Visualizer),” began with a scene showing a fireplace with Christmas stockings hanging over it.
There were four stockings, labeled “MOM,” “RIVER,” “REMY,” and “NOPE.”
As Us Weekly noted, River and Remy are Clarkson’s two children with her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock. The stocking labeled “mom” surely referred to Clarkson herself.
Clarkson and Blackstock were married for seven years before going their separate ways in 2020, shared Us Weekly.
The pair’s split and subsequent divorce were tense, and the “nope” stocking seems to signal Clarkson’s disinterest in adding a new partner to the mix of things in her personal life.
While talking to KOST 103.5 in November, Clarkson opened up about how her kids feel about the possibility of her dating again.
“Both my kids are not [into it and] they constantly bring it up,” Clarkson explained. She indicated they tell her, “Please, we don’t want you to be with anybody else.”
She acknowledged that both River, 10, and Remy, 8, are “young, so it’s hard to picture their mom with someone else other than their dad.”
Clarkson’s Fans Loved the Spicy Statement
Whether Clarkson included the “nope” stocking as a dig at Blackstock specifically or intended it to be a general statement about having no romantic partner this holiday, her fans seemed to love it.
One fan tweeted that Clarkson’s “continual shade” toward her ex-husband “will forever keep me breathing.”
Another tweeted, “Very clever!!!”
Someone else tweeted that the “nope” stocking was the “first thing I saw” in the video and “thought it was just so Kelly. I just [love] her.”
“Oh she has my whole heart,” a separate response read.
The kids may be resistant to seeing their mom with a new partner, but Clarkson isn’t closing the door on the idea forever. She shared during her KOST 103.5 appearance that she isn’t “looking for a ‘you’ for Christmas.”
However, Clarkson added, “I think the hope of that is really beautiful and magical, and imagination station is a wonderful thing.”
