When Jadyn Cree auditioned for season 27 of “The Voice,” for which she’s now one of the top five finalists, her biggest cheerleader was her dad, who knew exactly how she was feeling.
Bryan Olesen, who was in the Christian rock band The Newsboys from 2004 to 2006, had auditioned for the show like his daughter just two years before, and made it all the way to the top 3 during season 25, which aired in early 2024. But watching Cree, 23, go through the process has been far more emotional for the proud dad than when he went through it himself.
‘The Voice’ Alum Bryan Olesen Has Cried Multiple Times Watching Daughter Jadyn Cree Perform
Before her season 27 audition, singing Paramore’s “Still Into You,” Cree told producers, “My father got third place on Season 25 with Team Legend,” adding that her goal was to “try my best to get anywhere close to where he got in this competition.”
Her parents were watching from the sidelines and Olesen cheered loudly — and got a big hug from host Carson Daly — when coach Michael Bublé was the first to turn his chair. Kelsea Ballerini also turned her chair.
Although John Legend didn’t turn his chair for Cree, he said she looked “very familiar,” which is when she told him that Olesen was her dad. Legend shouted for him to join her on the stage, saying his run on the show was “amazing.”
“I imagine, Bryan, this is probably the greatest moment of your life so far,” Bublé said. Teary-eyed, Olesen replied, “it’s pretty great.”
Cree turned to her dad for help with deciding which coach to pick and he told her, “Whatever you want to do — I trust whatever your gut is.” In the end, she went with Bublé.
Bryan Olesen Says Daughter Jadyn Cree’s Journey on ‘The Voice’ Has Felt Like a ‘Kiss From God’
Olesen has continued to cheer on his daughter from the sidelines throughout season 27. When she made it through the Blind Auditions, he wrote on Instagram, “Just when I thought this crazy wonderful ride on The Voice couldn’t get any better!!! I can’t even begin to describe how this makes me feel. I’m so proud of my girl for just leaning in and embracing this opportunity.”
He continued, “Jadyn, I know you’re incredibly talented and you’re going to do amazing. but what gives me the most joy and pride is how beautiful you are inside and out. And now the world will get to see who you are. I love you sweetheart! Enjoy the ride!!”
During the Battle Round, he was seen on the show watching, with tears in his eyes, as Cree received glowing reviews from the coaches.
Before the Knockouts round, he posted an Instagram video from the NBC studio and wrote, “This has been the most amazing experience to see my daughter make her way on the Voice. Feels like a kiss from God. The next one is Monday night!! You’re not gonna want to miss it!!”
Chances are, he’ll be back to cheer on his girl as she tries to tie or best her dad in the season 27 finale. The two-night, live event airs on May 19 and 20.
