The exact time the halftime show starts also depends on commercials, and history can provide a guide. The longest Super Bowl ever lasted four hours and 14 minutes due to a 2013 power outage, and it’s not unusual for a Super Bowl to last four hours, according to Talk Sport.

Talk Sport reported that the halftime lasts about 30 minutes during Super Bowls, including commercials. However, the halftime performance itself usually lasts about 12-15 minutes, according to Cincinnati.com.

Lamar will be the headliner, occupying a role held in the past by music icons such as Prince and Michael Jackson.

“Grammy Award-winning artist Kendrick Lamar is set to headline the Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Feb. 9, 2025 on FOX,” NFL.com wrote.

Lamar also announced that he would be the Super Bowl 2025 halftime performer on social media.

“Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why,” Lamar said in a statement posted by NFL.com. “They got the right one.”

The NFL praised Lamar for his cultural impact.

“Few artists have impacted music and culture as profoundly as Kendrick Lamar,” NFL head of music Seth Dudowsky said to NFL.com. “Time and time again, Kendrick has proven his unique ability to craft moments that resonate, redefine, and ultimately shake the very foundation of hip-hop.

“We’re excited to collaborate with Kendrick, Roc Nation, and Apple Music to deliver another unforgettable Halftime Show.”

According to Cincinnati.com, it’s not clear which songs Lamar will play. Lamar has performed during a Super Bowl halftime show before. “He was a guest of Dr. Dre, along with Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige, and Anderson,” according to Cincinnati.com.

Billboard reported that SZA will also appear as a special guest of Lamar during the halftime performance. It’s not yet clear whether any other special guests will appear with Lamar.
