‘Voice’ Contestant’s Surprise Concert at Minnesota Airport

“The Voice” contestant Cameron Wright held a concert at the Minneapolis airport for fans passing through TSA checkpoints, according to KARE11.

The Minnesota television station reported that, despite being eliminated from the show, Wright, who is from Minnesota, held the airport concert and “serenaded the nearly 31,000 people” who walked through the checkpoints in Terminal 1.

According to KARE11, Wright was the “first openly nonbinary singer” who made it to the playoffs on “The Voice.”

Cameron Wright Discussed How It Feels to Inspire Other People

Wright discussed with the television station how it feels to inspire other people.

“It never was my goal to like be … the beacon, but it does feel very – it’s an honor that people are being inspired by me just being myself,” Wright told KARE11.

Wright, who is on Instagram, has shared videos from “The Voice.” Minnesota New Country reported that Wright grew up in Minnesota and is currently living in the Twin Cities. Wright, who is from a musical family, auditioned for “The Voice” multiple times before being selected, according to the site.

“Born and raised by a touring musician mother, Cameron Wright was destined for a music career. By training under their mother, Cameron became known as a local sensation by age 11. They performed at all the local venues and recorded a demo, which was later heard by Stevie Wonder and led to performing a duet with him at a concert,” NBC’s bio for Wright reads.

“After high school, Cameron moved in with their grandparents in St. Louis and instantly felt reconnected to their roots. Cameron started writing songs there, which played an intricate part in developing their sound today,” the bio says.

“By 2015, Cameron had built a strong social media presence and moved to L.A. for new musical opportunities. Within two months of moving to L.A., they booked major shows with artists such as The 1975 and later performed at Beyoncé’s Beychella,” it continues. “In 2023, Cameron learned their grandmother was very ill, so they canceled all musical obligations to be in St. Louis with her. Two weeks later, she passed away from breast cancer. Through the grief, Cameron enhanced their relationship with their mom and is now back living in Minneapolis, thriving in the local music scene.”

Cameron Wright Performed as Part of a Live Music Series at the Airport

Wright performed as part of a live music series sponsored at the airport by the Airport Foundation, KARE11 reported.

“We were just sitting and then we were blessed with an amazing free concert … The pianist, they both – you could tell they put a lot of practice in,” a family who heard Wright sing told the television station.

KARE11 shared video of Wright’s airport appearance on its YouTube page.
