‘The Voice’ Season 29: Blake Shelton Reportedly Turned Down Big Money to Reunite with Adam Levine

With a new theme, a bold format, and three powerhouse coaches, “The Voice” season 29—branded “The Voice: Battle of Champions”—is shaping up to be one of the most intense in the show’s history. But while Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend are set to return, fans are still wondering: Will Blake Shelton ever come back? According to a source, NBC certainly tried to make it happen.

NBC Reportedly Offered Shelton Big Money for ‘The Voice’ Season 29

Shelton, who helped launch “The Voice” in 2011 and remained a coach through season 23, left the show in 2023 to focus on family and other ventures. However, executives were reportedly eager to bring him back for season 29, especially alongside longtime frenemy and fan-favorite Adam Levine.

“They offered both Blake and Adam more money, a lot more, to get them back together and do a season together,” a source told The U.S. Sun. “Obviously, it didn’t work out for season 29, but stay tuned — it might happen sooner than later. It’d be a win/win for production and the fans. Their chemistry is unmatched.”

Levine, who took a five-year break from the show after season 16, returned for season 27 in 2025 and is sticking around for season 29. He previously stepped away to focus on parenting and “personal reflection,” but sources say he quickly felt the absence of his former co-star.

“Adam didn’t realize how much his experience was made by having Blake on set with him until this season when he had to film without him,” the insider said. “He didn’t enjoy this season as much as he anticipated, but he definitely feels Blake’s void and misses him.”

Blake Shelton Isn’t Ruling Out a Return—But On One Condition

While Shelton has no plans to return for season 29, he hasn’t closed the door entirely on “The Voice.” In April 2024, he told Entertainment Tonight that a reunion with the original season 1 coaching panel—including Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green, and Levine—might tempt him back.

“If they were ever able to put together the original four coaches again, maybe [I’d return] for one season, a one-off,” Shelton said. “That would be fun for me. … That would be something I would be interested in doing.”

He also admitted that he “misses the people” from the show the most: “Those people became like family to me—literally, from the crew all the way up to the producers. I was with them more than I was with my family.”
