For 23 seasons on “The Voice,” country superstar Blake Shelton not only mentored and encouraged rising stars on his teams, but was beloved by viewers for his sarcastic comments and funny rivalries with fellow celebrity coaches like Adam Levine.
But Shelton doesn’t need a TV show to go after some his best buds in the industry, including longtime frenemy Luke Bryan. On July 18, 2025 — Shelton’s 49th birthday — he used his Instagram Stories to troll the country star and “American Idol” judge for forgetting his big day.
Blake Shelton Tells Fans Luke Bryan is His ‘Only Friend’ Who Didn’t Wish Him a Happy Birthday

Shelton and Bryan have been friends for years, but their sarcastic rivalry has amped up in recent months. As birthday wishes poured in for Shelton from fans and famous friends on June 18, he made sure to hilariously call out Bryan, who’s on tour, for not saying anything.
In his Instagram Stories, Shelton wrote in white text on a black background, “Thank you for all my happy birthday wishes! I love yall! I’m kinda bummed though @lukebryan is the only of my friends that hasn’t reached out to me today. He’ll probably only do it now after he sees this.”
Three hours later, Shelton wrote again, “Thanks again everybody. I still haven’t heard from Luke.. He’s probably just busy today. @lukebryan”
On the night of the 18th, Bryan finally hopped into his Instagram Stories and — just like Shelton – wrote in white text on a black background, “Happy birthday to everyone in the world today except @blakeshelton. Clearly you need to lay off the beers. ha.”
The two country superstars have been friends for a long time, and love sarcastically joking about what a loser the other is. But behind the scenes, Bryan trusts and loves Shelton, even calling on the former “Voice” coach for advice — as well as former “Idol” judge Keith Urban — when ABC offered him a seat at the judges’ table in 2017.
Gwen Stefani Shared Sweet Birthday Tribute to Blake Shelton
Although Bryan might have forgotten Shelton’s birthday, Gwen Stefani certainly didn’t. The pop star and “Voice” coach paid tribute to her husband of nearly four years with a sweet video montage on social media, featuring clips of them together.
She captioned the post, “happy birthday to my greatest love @blakeshelton u are my everything!! ❤️❤️” and included their duet, “Nobody But You”
Stefani and Shelton couple met on “The Voice” and began dating in 2015, after both going through divorces. Five years later, host Carson Daly officiated their wedding, per People.
