Ariana Grande is setting the record straight. Though Grande has been channeling Audrey Hepburn recently with her style choices, the former “The Voice” coach says she has no plans to play Hepburn in a biopic.
Ariana Grande Says She Doesn’t Plan to Play Audrey Hepburn
When Grande was asked about the possibility of playing Hepburn, she revealed that she doesn’t have her sights set on the role.
In a January 7 interview with “Entertainment Tonight,” ahead of the National Board of Review Annual Awards Gala, Grande shared that her recent red carpet style was inspired by “Old Hollywood.”
“I love the 50s, 60s glamour, that’s just kind of my favorite — Marilyn, Audrey, all of that is my favorite,” she explained.
Grande was also asked if she was manifesting a role as Hepburn. While she said that it was “very kind,” it’s not currently on her radar. “That would have to be done so well and so perfectly,” she noted.
“Access Hollywood” also asked Grande whether she has plans to take on the role. “Oh my goodness, why is everyone asking me this? You’re insane!” she said. “You’re insane, you’re insane, you’re insane. You’re insane. I love you.”
Grande told the reporter that she has “always loved old-Hollywood glamour” and that Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe “have always been my references.”
She noted, “I’ve always gravitated toward ’50s, ’60s silhouettes and retro vintage … I can’t even think of a time when that wasn’t my vision board. But it’s been more fun to have more places to really do that.”
Grande added, “My stylist, Mimi [Cuttrell], and I have been leaning all the way in.”
The “Wicked” star definitely leaned into the vintage Hepburn vibe at the Golden Globes Awards, where she wore a striking yellow Givenchy gown and long white gloves. Givenchy noted in a press release: “The dress is pale-yellow silk with a hand-beaded bodice … from the epic Givenchy Haute Couture/Audrey Hepburn era … one of the most important unions between a designer and muse.”
Ariana Grande Appeared to Manifest Her ‘Wicked’ Role With a 2011 Tweet
Grande has been praised for her role as Glinda in “Wicked,” a dream part that she potentially manifested. Not only did she see “Wicked” on Broadway when she was a kid, she also met the original Glinda, Kristin Chenoweth, at the time.
In 2011, Grande tweeted about her desire to one day play Glinda, writing, “Loved seeing ‘Wicked’ again … amazing production! Made me realize again how badly I want 2 play Glinda at some point in my life! #DreamRole.”
Grande may have landed the role of her dreams but, according to the singer, her recent Hepburn-inspired fashion choices are not a message to the universe that she wants to star in a biopic about the legendary actress.
