Adam Levine is Rejoining the Coach Lineup for Season 29 of ‘The Voice’

Adam Levine shocked fans when he decided to return to “The Voice” after five and a half years away. Fans were excited to have Levine back, even if his partner-in-crime, Blake Shelton, had left the show in 2023.

“The only way to sum it up is that just energetically…the opportunity came at the right moment and I was really ready, and we started talking about it and one thing led to another and here I am,” the Maroon 5 singer told “NBC Insider” about his return. “It was that simple. It didn’t involve too much deliberation or overthinking. I kind of just felt ready. I was really happy to come back and experience it again with these three wonderful people.”

The news that he wouldn’t be returning for Season 28 was disappointing, but the sadness didn’t last long: Levine is returning for Season 29, along with fan favorites Kelly Clarkson and John Legend.

Fans Go Wild for “The Voice” Season 29 Coaches: Kelly, Adam & John

On July 22, it was announced that Adam Levine, John Legend, and Kelly Clarkson would be the coaches for “The Voice” Season 29. Fans on Levine’s Instagram post were thrilled.

“This will be an amazing season,” commented one fan. “Always Adam,” wrote another. “WOW this is my wish,” another commented, while also wishing that Blake would also return.

Called “The Voice: Battle of Champions,” the first season of 2026 will have three coaches instead of four. Clarkson has won four times, Levine has won three, and Legend has won once in nine seasons on the show.

Will Blake Shelton Ever Come Back to “The Voice”?

Levine got along well with his fellow judges for Season 27. He even developed a good rapport with Kelsea Ballerini by the end of the season, which some thought was similar to the vibe between him and Shelton. But still, some wondered if he was having as much fun without his frenemy.

“Adam didn’t realize how much his experience was made by having Blake on set with him until this season when he had to film without him,” a source told “The Sun.” He didn’t enjoy this season as much as he anticipated but he definitely feels Blake’s void and misses him.”

Despite the two not being able to continue their playful rivalry weekly for audiences, Shelton’s return for the finale to perform a song gave viewers a nostalgic look at the dynamic duo’s rapport. Host Carson Daly asked Levine if he thought Shelton would ever return to “The Voice,” so they could continue their bickering. Levine said, “I think we should do it,” to the audience. But in the end, it’s up to Shelton, and with his upcoming show, “The Road,” that looks unlikely.
