Why Adam Levine Is Done Getting Tattoos

Adam Levine is pretty inked-up but his latest tattoo will be his last. The Maroon 5 singer revealed to Today that he just can’t take the pain anymore. His latest tat, which covers his entire arm, was an eye-opening experience for him. 

“It really hurt. I’m kind of done with the pain, I’ve decided … now, I’ve softened,” Levine explained. “Now, when I get a tattoo, I’m like, ‘This hurts so badly.’ Like, ‘What’s wrong?’ We’re done.” 

Levine, a longtime coach on “The Voice” explained that his most recent tattoo covered his entire arm, which previously featured a whole different design. “I covered up my sleeve with another sleeve,” the singer said. “Who does that? What is wrong with me? Psychotic.” 

The Meaning Behind Levine’s Ink

The exact number of tattoos Levine has is unclear, but in 2022 the count was over 30, according to E! News. He got his first tattoo, a dove on his left bicep, at age 21 and there was a special meaning behind it. “It was five days after 9/11. I felt this need to say something with this peaceful thing on my body,” Levine shared with People.

The singer’s many tats include creatures such as a shark on his side, an eagle on his ribcage, and a large, intricate design featuring a mermaid on his back.

Levine also has words inked onto his skin, including “Mom” on his right wrist, “Noah,” which is his middle name and his mother’s maiden name, on his right side, and “True Love” written across his fingers.

Levine also sports the word “California” across his stomach, and “Los Angeles” on his right bicep. “Not many people were born and raised in L.A. Gotta wear that badge of pride,” he explained.

The One Place Levine Would Never Get a Tattoo

Levine told Today another reason he is done getting tattooed is that he’s “running out of room” on his body. 

In 2021, the singer turned heads with what appeared to be new ink, a rose on his left temple. But that was just a temporary tattoo, it turned out, and Levine made it clear his face was off-limits when it came to his extensive body art. 

“This message is for my mother. I do not have a tattoo on my face,” Levine shared in an Instagram story posted at the time. He added, “Those that know me know that I am too vain.”
