Sarah Ferguson is remembering her late mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II, in a touching yet humorous way. The Duchess of York, 65, was at the Creative Women Platform Forum conference in London earlier this week when she made an adorable revelation.
Talking on stage, Fergie revealed that she and her ex-husband, Prince Andrew, adopted the queen’s last two surviving corgis after her death in September 2022. The duchess shares the monarch’s love for animals, particularly dogs.
Fergie goes on to say that she believes Queen Elizabeth is “talking” to her through her corgis.
I have her dogs. I have her corgis, so every morning they come in and go, ‘Woof, woof’ and all that and I’m sure it’s her talking to me.
Queen’s Corgis Now Living With The Duke & Duchess Of York
In 2021, the Duke and Duchess of York gifted Queen Elizabeth her last two corgis, Sandy and Muick. Following the royal’s passing, the dogs returned to live with them at the Royal Lodge in Windsor.
This isn’t the first time Fergie connected with the late queen through her dogs. In 2023, the best-selling author told PEOPLE that she believes the corgis send her a sign from the queen, letting her know she’s around.
They are national icons, so every time they run chasing a squirrel, I panic. But they’re total joys, and I always think that when they bark at nothing, and there’s no squirrels in sight, I believe it’s because the Queen is passing by.
How The Queen’s Dogs Help Fergie?
Caring for the Queen’s beloved corgis has been therapeutic for Ferguson, especially after her breast cancer diagnosis. In a July 2023 Instagram post, she shared that she’s been walking all of her dogs along the same paths Her Majesty once did.
The duchess added that if she were to talk to the queen today, she would “tell her about the magnolia trees in the garden, because she loved that, and the primroses on the banks of Windsor, and the snowdrops. She would love that her doggies were walking wherever she walked before.”
Fergie had two cancer diagnoses within a span of six months. In June 2023, it was confirmed she had breast cancer and underwent a single mastectomy. Months later, in January 2024, she was diagnosed with a form of skin cancer called malignant melanoma. By May 2024, Princess Beatrice confirmed that her mother was “all clear.”
