King Charles welcomed George and Amal Clooney to Buckingham Palace this week. The royal reception honored young changemakers at the 2025 King’s Trust Awards.
The Clooneys, joined by Dame Joanna Lumley and other Trust supporters, came to celebrate inspiring young people who are making a real difference in their communities. Smiling and relaxed, the couple shared a warm reunion with the monarch — a joyful moment at the heart of the royal reception.
Honoring Young Changemakers from Around the World
The annual King’s Trust Awards recognize young people who have overcome adversity and achieved personal success with the support of The King’s Trust.
This year’s winners include youth who have battled mental health struggles, educational challenges, and unemployment. His Majesty met the recipients of eight UK-based awards: Enterprise, Education, Breakthrough, Young Change Maker, Young Achiever, Community Impact, Rising Star, and Volunteer of the Year.
The King also honored three recipients of global awards. They included the Global Young Achiever Award, the Amal Clooney Woman’s Empowerment Award, and the Global Sustainability Award.
Celebrating 10 Years of Global Impact
The reception also marked the 10th anniversary of King’s Trust International. King Charles founded the initiative in 2015, then known as Prince’s Trust International. It has since expanded to over 20 countries. The program has helped more than 100,000 young people across Nigeria, India, Pakistan, Jamaica, Greece, and beyond.
To commemorate the milestone, His Majesty cut a celebratory cake with the young award winners and Trust supporters.
George and Amal Clooney’s History with the Royal Family
This wasn’t the Clooneys’ first time joining a royal event.
George and Amal previously attended a Buckingham Palace dinner for The Trust in 2019, back when it was known as The Prince’s Trust.
The couple was seen chatting warmly with then-Prince Charles at the glamorous gathering.
They also attended Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding at Windsor Castle in May 2018, where George reportedly entertained guests by mixing drinks behind the bar.
“George Clooney hopped behind the bar and was mixing drinks for guests,” a source told PEOPLE.
A Royal Friendship Beyond the Palace
That summer, the Sussexes reportedly visited the Clooneys’ Lake Como villa. According to ABC News, Prince Harry and George played basketball, while Meghan relaxed poolside with Amal and helped care for the Clooneys’ twins, Ella and Alexander. The Clooneys also hosted a dinner party in their honor.
The Clooneys, who maintain a home in the UK, remain close friends of the royal couple and continue to support King Charles’s charitable work through The Trust.
