The beard has arrived—and so has Kate Middleton’s take on her husband’s bold new stubble. Prince William first debuted his scruffy new look back in August, but it took his wife a while to weigh in. But, the Princess of Wales has finally shared her thoughts while attending the Irish Guards’ St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in London.
Kate Middleton Isn’t So Sure Prince William Will Stick With His New Look
Prince William surprised fans in August when he appeared in a video alongside his wife, sporting fresh stubble while congratulating Team GB on their performance at the Paris Olympics. Despite the initial shock, the Prince of Wales has stuck with the look ever since.
Fast forward to St. Patrick’s Day, and the topic of his beard finally came up. While visiting the Junior Ranks’ cookhouse at Wellington Barracks, Middleton, in her role of Colonel of the Irish Guards, chatted with soldiers about various subjects—including her husband’s facial hair.
According to Express, the Princess of Wales shared her thoughts: “These trends come and go. I was saying to my husband, I’m not sure how long he’s going to keep his for.”
During her appearance, Middleton enjoyed a sip of Guinness and spoke to soldiers about the difficulties of deployment.
She said: “Being able to manage that work-life balance – it’s tough.”
In March 2023, the future Queen took on a new royal role as Colonel of the Irish Guards, a position previously held by Prince William since 2011. Meanwhile, her husband transitioned to Colonel of the Welsh Guards, following in the footsteps of his father, King Charles.
The Princess of Wales Once Had Her Own Awkward Fashion Moment On St. Patrick’s Day
As this year’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations come to an end, we can’t help but look back and remember Princess Catherine’s own awkward fashion moment. While making an appearance for the holiday in 2013, Middleton infamously got her heel stuck in a drain, according to Express UK.
Of course, she handled the mishap like a pro despite being pregnant with Prince George at the time. She leaned on her husband and freed her stiletto to continue greeting fans. Despite the mishap, Middleton didn’t miss a beat and continued handing out shamrocks to the guardsmen and to the regiment’s Irish Wolfhound mascot, Domhnall.
This year marks Middleton’s return to publicly celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, as she was forced to miss the festivities in 2024 due to her battle with cancer.
