Former ‘Bachelorette’ on Divorce: ‘No One Has to Dim Your Light’

A former star from “The Bachelorette” is currently going through a divorce, and she spoke out about some important revelations she’s had during the process. Rachel Lindsay and Bryan Abasolo were married for four years before he filed for divorce.

Despite the disappointment and challenges she’s experienced with the end of her marriage, Lindsay shared that people in similar situations can reclaim the power within them.

“No one has to dim your light,” Lindsay insisted.

Rachel Lindsay Promised People Can ‘Take Their Power Back’ Amid Relationship Failures

Lindsay appeared on the December 3 episode of “The View” as a guest co-host. The group briefly talked about “Dancing with the Stars” alum Nikki Garcia speaking out for the first time about her divorce from DWTS professional dancer Artem Chigvintsev.

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg then brought Lindsay into the discussion, noting that the former “Bachelorette” star could probably relate to some of what Garcia was experiencing.

Lindsay shared, “We’re currently going through a divorce right now and it’s really interesting.”

She spoke about the shame she felt in having such a public marriage fall apart. However, Lindsay also expressed how she’s come through it to find herself again.

“Your identity becomes wrapped up in the relationship and you’re afraid that that’s the only way people see you. But I’m here to tell you, it’s not,” Lindsay noted.

She continued, “Like you can take your power back, you can find your power within. No one has to dim your light.”

‘The Bachelorette’ Star Realizes She Saw Signs of Trouble Before the Wedding

Lindsay shared that she and Abasolo dated for two and a half years before they got married. “We were looked at as one of the more successful relationships that came from the show,” Lindsay explained.

She noted they were married for about four years.

She added, “Anywhere I went, people would ask me about my relationship and how you’re doing. And when are you having kids? All the things that were wrapped up in that.”

Lindsay admitted she felt “public pressure” to pretend “Everything’s great even though behind closed doors that might not be the case or that you’re working on it or that you’re having a bad day or whatever it may be.”

“A lot of that is wrapped up in shame, you don’t wanna say that it failed. You’re scared for people to see you in a different way,” she admitted.

When she was asked when she knew the relationship wasn’t working, Lindsay said it was “Hard to admit it publicly now.”

After hesitating and thinking about her answer, Lindsay admitted she probably saw signs of trouble before the wedding.

But, she added, “As women were fixers. We think we can figure it out. They’re a challenge to us.”

“Eventually I saw it more, I would say within two years. We were married for four and a half,” Lindsay continued.

As People noted, Abasolo and Lindsay met in 2017 and married in 2019. Abasolo filed for divorce in December 2023.
