A former lead for “The Bachelorette” has revealed difficult news about a medical diagnosis, and fans are flooding her with support. Katie Thurston had first mentioned some testing due to a lump she found in her breast in mid-January, and she had promised fans she would share more when she knew more.
Now, Thurston has taken to her Instagram page to reveal she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Katie Thurston Has Invasive Ductal Carcinoma
On February 15, Thurston shared a lengthy update on Instagram. “Life update: I have breast cancer,” she began.
“This is day one of sharing and is going to be a long one. This first step of acceptance of my reality was the hardest. But I am ready to fight this,” she added.
Thurston explained that she got her diagnosis two weeks ago and she has been swamped trying to get everything necessary into place. She had just moved from Los Angeles, California, to New York City to live with her fiance, comedian Jeff Arcuri. Now, she has to get a lot of medically-related puzzle pieces to get into place for treatment.
On January 17, Thurston shared some initial details about the potential diagnosis via an Instagram Story. She noted she had done a full body scan the previous year and spotted an irregularity. Thurston and her medical team continued to monitor it, and on February 5 she was due to have a breast ultrasound.
After that ultrasound and her diagnosis, Thurston wrote, “I experienced a range of emotions over the past two weeks. Despair. Anger. Sadness. Denial. And then strength. Purposeful. Ready. I cried a lot. I tried to even make a video instead of this post and couldn’t.”

Thurston then gushed over Arcuri. “I saved the best for last. To my extraordinary husband to be @jarcuri – I don’t know how I’d do this without you. The selfless love that you smother me in is beyond anything I imagined I’d be blessed with. I love you to the fullest in this lifetime and the next.”
“The Bachelorette” star’s Instagram post was immediately flooded with notes of support from Bachelor Nation.
Jenn Tran wrote, “Love you❤️❤️❤️ you’re one of the strongest people I know!! Sending so much love to you. ❤️”
Thomas Jacobs, who was on Thurston’s season of “The Bachelorette, added, “You’ve got this!”
Susie Evans shared, “I am so sorry Katie. Sending you love and prayers. Here for you always. ❤️”
