It looks like ABC won’t be ordering any roses this summer. The network has stopped production of “The Bachelorette,” skipping a show cycle for the first time since 2007 according to Deadline.
The last three seasons of “The Bachelorette,” including Jenn Tran’s season, have aired in early July each year.
The Bachelorette’s Future Is Uncertain
While ABC hasn’t officially canceled the reality dating series, it’s not clear how long the hiatus will last, or when a new “Bachelorette” season could return. Or, of course, who the next Bachelorette could be, if any.
The pause came just two weeks after the Season 29 premiere of “The Bachelor.”
This season’s bachelor is Grant Ellis, who “Bachelorette” fans know from Tran’s season (Season 21) of the show. According to the Austin American-Statesman, Grant is a former pro basketball player who now lives in Houston and works as a day trader.
Ellis “captured the hearts of Bachelor Nation on Season 21 of ‘The Bachelorette’ with his infectious smile and unwavering positivity,” ABC says about him, adding “fans saw Ellis’ genuine desire to build a future centered on family” before his emotional exit.
In an episode of the podcast “The Viall Files,” Ellis revealed that he jumped at the chance to become the next Bachelor. “The producers called me and they asked me [if I] would be interested, and, you know, I jumped on it. I was like, ‘Yeah, of course.’ I was still recovering from the season, what happened with Jenn, and they called me. And I was just [like], ‘I’m super interested.’ I have a chance to write my own story. So, that’s something that I’m interested in.”
The Last Season of “The Bachelorette” Ended in Heartbreak
Jenn Tran is the most recent leading lady in Season 21 of the the show. She made history as the first Asian-American Bachelorette. And while she believed she found love in 28-year-old Devin Strader, things went south after the rose ceremony in Hawaii.
In a lengthy Instagram post, Tran revealed her heartbreak after Strader ended their engagement in a 15-minute phone call. “While emotions were high on stage, at the end of the day, I will always have love for the person I fell in love with and I am choosing to wish him the best in his journey of life and will always root for him.,” she wrote.
Despite her broken heart, Tran counts her experience on The Bachelorette as a positive one. She wrote, “Being the first Asian American bachelorette has been a healing experience for me and I couldn’t be happier to watch my community come alive. No matter where you are in your search for your identity, please remember you are worthy and you are exactly who you need to be.”
