Leah Messer Discussed Her Daughter’s Health in September 2023

Simms shares Ali and Aleeah with his ex-wife, Leah Messer. In a September 2023 interview with E! News, Messer gave an update on Ali’s battle with muscular dystrophy. She said that her daughter’s physical and mental health has gotten better. She said, however, she does not know what the future holds for her daughter.

“I’m always gonna remain hopeful. Muscular dystrophy, it is a degenerative progressive disease. So we don’t know what the future really looks like. But I know that we’re going to enjoy every single moment now and continue to make memories and make the best of it. I think that she will continue to defy the odds,” said Messer to E! News.

Leah Messer Shared That Ali Would Like to Publish a Memoir

While speaking to E! News, Messer said that Ali would like to pen a memoir that would delve into living with muscular dystrophy. She noted that she wrote her own memoir, “Hope, Grace & Faith,” that was published in 2020.

“[Writing the memoir] allowed me to identify and really take power of so much of my life and not be ashamed of so many things. I think that Ali is going to experience the same thing. And I think she’s going to bring a sense of understanding to so many other kids that maybe don’t understand muscular dystrophy or that we’re not all made the same and that’s okay,” said Messer to the publication.

While speaking to Us Weekly in April 2020, Messer said that writing her memoir, which touched on difficult aspects of her life, was powerful.

“The mistakes I’ve made in the past, sharing that with the entire world was – I had a lot of fears that came up. But it was also — it ended up being so therapeutic for me,” said Messer to Us Weekly.
