Boston Rob Mariano of ‘Survivor’ Shares His Unexpected Vacation Drama

“Boston Rob” Mariano was living every parent’s biggest fear while on a recent trip to Mexico. The “Survivor” alum shared in an Instagram Story on June 16, 2025, that his 14-year-old daughter Carina “got poked by this plant yesterday on the golf course…long story short we ended up in the hospital last night.”

“Boston Rob” shares Carina with fellow “Survivor” alum and wife, Amber Mariano. They are also parents to Lucia, 15, Isabetta, 13, and Adelina, 10.

The only thing worse than having a sick or injured child is having it happen while on vacation, and that is exactly what happened while the Mariano family was in Mexico. “Boston Rob” shared the details of Carina’s injury, saying in his Instagram Stories, “She had a pretty severe reaction to the plant and was in a lot of pain. The doctors did an ultrasound to look for the spine, but instead found an abundance of fluid inside her knee near where the plant pricked her and prescribed some antibiotics and anti-inflammatories.”

“We have identified the culprit El Datilillo, ‘The Spanish Dagger,” said Rob as he shared a photo of the plant. He also reported that once Carina’s medication began to work, she quickly felt better.

Carina Recently Graduated Middle School With Top Honors

Rob and Amber whisked their family away for a celebratory trip in Mexico. Carina graduated from middle school in May 2025, and at the time, Rob said that he “cried like a baby” because of her academic achievement.

“She received one of her school’s top honors, the Leadership award! I was so overcome with emotion.” Rob wrote on Instagram that he is “so proud” of Carina, saying, “You are so kind and smart and beautiful, and you will succeed in whatever you do. You are a wonderful daughter and a great sister. You are a Champion! I love you with all of my heart!”

The family celebrated the end of a successful school year by heading to Cabo San Lucas, where Rob got to spend Father’s Day relaxing by the beach and playing golf. “Absolutely Perfect!!!” he shared in a June 15 post, later adding, “All #mygirls living their best lives this week.”

Rob has often spoken about family being the most important thing to him, and how important it is for his children to be raised with the desire to spend time together.
