Boston Rob Mariano Lobbies for Another Chance on ‘Survivor’

Survivor Superstar Boston Rob Mariano may be turning 50 this year, but the “Traitors” king of the double-cross is lobbying for one more trip to Survivor Island nevertheless.

In fact, the notorious competitor says the fact that he’s turning 50 this year makes him the perfect choice to be part of the epic cast of “Survivor: Season 50.”

In an Instagram post, Rob shows a throwback picture of himself as a “Survivor” castaway with the caption, “Maybe I do have one more in me after all! 🏝️ ….it would be poetic. I’m turning 50 this year! 🔥 #Survivor50 🔥 @survivorcbs @cbstv

50th Birthday Isn’t Rob Mariano’s Only Milestone This Year

While “Boston Rob” will turn 50 on Christmas Day, that’s far from the only milestone he’ll celebrate this year.

Mariano and wife Amber will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary on April 16.

The pair met in 2003 as contestants on “Survivor: All-Stars.” The eighth season of the reality series pitted 18 former contestants against each other. What started as a strategic alliance ended with a proposal in the season finale.

Amber first competed on “Survivor: The Australian Outback” in 2001. Rob, better known as “Boston Rob,” gained notoriety for his cut-throat techniques on “Survivor: Marquesas” in 2002. In clips from “Survivor: All-Stars,” Amber admits that flirting with Rob started as a “complete strategy” move.

“The way our relationship started out is so different than what anybody ever experiences with dating,” Amber told “Entertainment Tonight” in 2020. “When you’re on “Survivor,” you can’t even brush your teeth, you can’t even brush your hair, you don’t even change your clothes. So we didn’t have this, like almost fake way to impress each other … it was the most real as it gets.”

In the end, Amber walked away with not just the proposal, but the $1 million prize money, besting Rob in the final tribal council vote. If you’re wondering, Rob proposed before the vote. “I’ve seen you at your highest high and your lowest low and between it all we work together as a team to accomplish so much,” Rob said during the episode. “And in the end, I ended up falling in love with you. You’re the most amazing person I’ve ever met in my entire life and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”

Reality Stars are ‘Survivors’ in Marriage

Rob and Amber married on April 16, 2005 at Atlantis Paradise Island in The Bahamas. Their ceremony was later featured in a TV special.

Since that time, their family has grown. Amber gave birth to first daughter, Lucia Rose, in 2009, followed by Carina Rose in 2010. Isabetta Rose was born in 2012 and Adelina Rose completed the family in 2014.

‘Survivor: Season 50’ Promises an All-Star Cast

If Boston Rob Mariano gets his wish to be cast as a castaway in Season 50 of Survivor, he won’t be the only familiar face.

But who will be chosen remains a hotly debated topic for host and executive producer Jeff Probst and his team.

At a special VIP advance screening of the premiere of “Survivor 48,” Probst said, “Trying to figure out who we want to represent “Survivor 50″ has been the most exciting, I would say, and simultaneously, single-most difficult thing any of us have ever done. We’ve had 750-something people play this game. How many are on a season? 18, 20. Not many. So we started with a list of 200 people, these people representing the season. And then we got them to 100. That was the first difficult time where we’re all like, ‘Man, now it’s getting tough.’ Then we get down to 50.”

Probst went on to say, “This is what we’re trying to do, because we want to satisfy you. We want a cast that represents all types of players, spanning all the eras. An array of people who have slept bled this ever-changing game design for the last 25 years. Because, really, “Survivor 50″ is a representation of everyone who has ever played and the fans who’ve been with us for the entire time.”

Boston Rob Mariano shouldn’t have too long to wait to find out if he makes the cut. “Survivor: Season 50” is set to begin filming in Fiji later this year.
