William Shatner may be 94 years old, but the “Star Trek” actor is showing no signs of slowing down. On August 7, 2025, he took to Instagram with a surprise announcement that has fans buzzing. “My dear followers, I wanted to drop a bit of a teaser: I’m writing a new book,” he captioned the post.
Of course, Shatner writing books is nothing new. The actor has penned multiple “Star Trek” novels and autobiographical tomes over the years. However, what makes this new project special is how it’s being created. “Even Better: the book’s all about YOU, the fans,” Shatner wrote. “And you can be a part of it, maybe even be in it!”
Fans Were Instantly Excited About The Book News

It’s not every day you get the chance to be part of a celebrity’s book, so fans were understandably excited about Shatner’s announcement. The post quickly garnered over 5,000 likes, and many Trekkies took to the comments to shoot their shot. “That would be a dream come true for me Mr. Shatner!!” one fan wrote. “[Thank you] for inviting fans to be a part of your next book,” another said.
According to the book’s official website, the process of throwing your hat into the ring to be part of the project is pretty simple. First, pre-order the book, “William Shatner… And You” from the site. Then, simply submit a story about how any of Shatner’s many classic characters have impacted your life. Shortlisted submissions put fans in the running for interviews with the one and only Captain Kirk. A select few fans will have their interviews published in the book.
Shatner Has Hinted at a Return to The Franchise

“William Shatner… And You” is the latest exciting development for “Star Trek” fans, but more could be on the horizon for Shatner. In February 2025, The Direct reported that the actor could potentially return as Kirk in the near future. While speaking at Fan Expo Vancouver, he revealed that a writer contacted him about an up-and-coming series.
“If Kirk is going to come back, it has to mean something. It has to be the show,” Shatner explained. “But I was so impressed by this writer, so I said let’s talk after I’m done in Vancouver.” For now, fans will have to wait and see if those conversations will indeed lead to a Kirk resurrection.
