‘Star Trek’ Actor Passes Away & Tributes Pour In

“Star Trek” fans are in mourning as beloved actor Kenneth Washington has sadly passed away. Not only did he appear in the famed series in the 1960s, but he was also the last surviving cast member of “Hogan’s Heroes.” Kenneth Washington was 89 years old. He passed away on July 18. 

According to Variety, Kenneth Washington is survived by his wife, Alice Marshall, and their three children. He also leaves behind three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Additionally, he had two siblings, a brother and a sister, who are still alive. 


Tributes Are Pouring In For Kenneth Washington

Kenneth Washington made a significant impact on the world through his numerous roles. As a result, many fans are taking to the internet to pay tribute to his life and legacy. A person on X who posts under the name George Lewis is one of them. 

They wrote, “Dear Mr. Washington’s Family, I thoroughly enjoyed his acting. May Kenneth rest in eternal Peace. Kenneth Washington dead aged 89: Star Trek actor and final surviving main cast member of Hogan’s Heroes dies.”

The Create Ensemble account stated, “Rest in power, Kenneth Washington. As the last surviving main cast member of Hogan’s Heroes, your legacy lives on through decades of television history.”

The account called death_notices_uk wrote on Instagram, “On 18th July 2025, the entertainment world bid farewell to a true television icon, Kenneth Washington—best known as Sergeant Richard Baker in the final season of Hogan’s Heroes.”

The tribute continued, “He passed away at 89, surrounded by family. Our condolences are with the many lives he touched during his career. We welcome you to share your tributes and memories of Kenneth.”

A person by the name of James A. Conrad highlighted significant aspects of his career. They said on X, “RIP Kenneth Washington (1936-2025), 89. Actor, among his roles was engineer Watkins in the Star Trek episode “That Which Survives” (1969). “Who are you?” […] Losira: “I am for you, Mr. Watkins.”


He Leaves Behind a Massive Legacy

As mentioned, Kenneth Washington appeared in several television shows, beginning in the late 1950s. This includes “I Dream of Jeannie” in 1966 and an episode of “Star Trek” in 1969. His most notable role came in 1970, when he began playing Baker on “Hogan’s Heroes”. 

He made his last TV appearance in 1989 on an episode of “A Different World.” Following his acting career, he pursued an education and earned a degree from Loyola Marymount University. He later became a teacher.
