Who doesn’t love good melodrama?
It doesn’t matter how you get it; it lives everywhere. At work, at home, in video games, on TV – from scripted to reality.
Soap operas manage to do it on a daily basis. They keep tensions high while maintaining long standing stories that seemingly last a millenia. Now, fans can get just a bit more of their favorite soaps thanks to a new podcast from CBS.
The Podcast and the Beautiful
“Soapy” is aiming to give subscribers more of what they want. Hosted by Rebecca Budig (“The Bold and the Beautiful,” “All My Children,” “General Hospital”) and Greg Rikaart (“The Young and the Restless,” “Days of our Lives”), the show is a new podcast that dives deep into soap operas.
According to a press release, the podcast “features lively, nostalgic conversations with beloved past and present stars and creatives from across the entire soap opera community and all networks and platforms, including daytime and primetime. From unforgettable storylines to behind-the-scenes insights, the series celebrates the genre’s rich history, passionate fanbase and the talent that continues to bring these iconic stories to life.”
Better yet: “Soapy” will be available in audio and video form. A new trailer was released featuring Budig and Rikaart explaining what they want to give fans.
The Young and the Downloads
The show is already set to feature a slew of interviews with soap opera favorites. Not only does this include actors from CBS shows but also other famous soaps. Additionally, it looks as though behind the scenes crew will be along for the ride as well.
CBS announced the first four episodes will feature chats with Eric Braeden (“The Young and the Restless”); Deidre Hall (“Days of our Lives”); “Beyond the Gates” executive producer Sheila Ducksworth; and Lauralee Bell (“The Young and the Restless”).
Future episodes will feature Maurice Benard (“General Hospital”), Tracey Bregman (“The Young and the Restless”), Marc Cherry (creator, writer, “Desperate Housewives”), Scott Clifton (“The Bold and the Beautiful”), Eva LaRue (“General Hospital”), Christian LeBlanc (“The Young and the Restless”), Cameron Mathison (“General Hospital,” “All My Children”), Karla Mosley (“Beyond the Gates”), Lawrence Saint-Victor (“The Bold and the Beautiful”), Melody Thomas Scott (“The Young and the Restless”), Heather Tom (“The Bold and the Beautiful”) and Tamara Tunie (“Beyond the Gates”).
“Soapy” launches on July 8 wherever you get podcasts. Episodes will launch weekly through September 30. If you want to watch the show, head to CBS’s YouTube channel.
