“General Hospital” fans have watched for decades as Sonny Corinthos has called all the shots in Port Charles. His time spent in the clink has been minimal compared to all of the dastardly deeds that he has walked away scot free from. Just last year, he murdered FBI agent Jagger Cates in cold blood, and no one blinked. Sonny controlling things and doing as he pleased became the norm, and it was unimaginable to think that after all of this time, it would ever change.
Then came Jenz Sidwell, who is proving to be Sonny’s biggest opponent yet. The two mobsters have been playing a game of tit for tat for months now, but it looks like Sidwell ultimately has the upper hand.
Sidwell Versus Sonny

Sidwell breezed into Port Charles last fall with connections to people like Lucky, Jason, Anna, and Holly, who had dealt with him overseas, in countries where laws never held him accountable for his horrific deeds. He claimed to be turning over a new leaf and said he was ready to focus on his life as an importer in the perfect shipping town, Port Charles
No one was buying it, no matter how lovely Sidwell appeared to be, and his war with Sonny began quickly. He wants Sonny’s piers, and shutting down Sonny’s business would also send quite a message to the other crime families. He tried and failed to buy Sonny out and that’s when the violence began. Sidwell torched Charlie’s Pub with Sonny’s daughter, Kristina, in it. So Sonny then kidnapped his son, Marco.
The two have spent months sending each other the clear-cut message that neither one plans to go willingly. Little does Sonny know that for months now, Sidwell has actually been holding all of the cards.
Sidwell Now Has the Upper Hand

Time and again, Sonny has made it crystal clear that his family is the most essential thing in the world to him. It’s a bottom line that he and Sidwell both share, so it makes perfect sense that his nemesis would strike on that level.
Earlier this summer, Michael Corinthos won full custody of his two children, Wylie and Amelia, over his ex, Willow. The whole family was relieved when the judge ruled in favor of the stability that Michael brings to their lives. What they didn’t know was that Sidwell bribed her. He sent an untraceable lump sum of money to her after she ruled in favor of Michael.
If this information were to come out, everyone, including Michael, would believe that Sonny bribed the judge. After all, it is the kind of thing that he has done in the past. Michael would turn on his father while losing custody of his children to Willow. Sonny is not going to allow that to happen, which means that it looks like he is going to find himself under Sidwell’s thumb.
What Will Sonny’s Next Move Be?

Sonny will likely bow to Sidwell at first, but will he be able to outsmart him? Sidwell plays the long game regularly, which up until now hasn’t been Sonny’s specialty. He and Jason have also discussed getting out of the business altogether, but doing so on Sidwell’s terms would look like a show of weakness. That puts his whole family at risk from the rest of the crime families.
Are we about to see a serious shift of power in Port Charles? How do you think that the battle between Sonny and Sidwell will ultimately shake out?
