Sofia Mattsson Pays Tribute to GH Fans After 7-Year Run

“General Hospital” fans were shocked to realize that when Sasha Gilmore was leaving the country to protect her newborn baby, Daisy, it meant that Sofia Mattsson’s time on the soap had come to an end. Many expected the character to be off the canvas for a short while at most, to accommodate the storyline.

The timing felt a bit ironic because Sasha and Michael (as played by Rory Gibson) had definite chemistry, leaving many to hope for a reconciliation between them. Sasha staying in Paris with Robert and Holly was likely not on anyone’s bingo card, but it is precisely what has happened, and that means that Sofia is now free to pursue whatever she pleases. The actress finally took to Instagram to confirm her exit and celebrate that beautiful GH fanbase.

Sofia Mattsson Is Ready for New Adventures

As it turns out, Sofia was ready to take on new acting roles. The fans are sad to see her leave, but the actress is excited about her future. She also was sure to acknowledge all of the support that the fans have given her while playing Sasha.

Sofia said in her latest Instagram post, “Yes, it’s true, Sasha Gilmore has left Port Charles! (For now) General Hospital has become my second home these past years and I am so grateful for my time there.
And I feel so lucky to have experienced the love and support all the wonderful GH fans have to give – you guys truly are THE BEST!

I hope Sasha will make her way back to her friends and family, but for now it’s time for her to take a break from all the drama, and for me to continue my acting journey in some new exciting projects!”

Should the Character of Sasha Be Recast?

Since Sasha left town with Michael Corinthos’ baby, it’s a good guess that she won’t be offscreen for long. The powers that be at GH have left the door open for Sofia to return if she decides to. But what if she doesn’t want to come back? Should the role of Sasha be recast? Or is it one of those characters that should only be played by their original actress?
