‘General Hospital’ Star Kin Shriner Shares Recovery After Botched Surgery

It has been nearly a year since Scotty Baldwin went to get coffee and donuts on “General Hospital” and never came back. Fans have repeatedly asked about the fate of one of the long-running series’ most popular characters, with little response until now.

Soap veteran Kin Shriner, who plays the iconic role, shared an update on X (formerly Twitter) on June 30, 2025.

The actor has explained that he has had multiple foot surgeries over the years, but the operation he had last summer left him in pretty bad shape. He was last seen on “General Hospital” in August of 2024, and suffered through a botched procedure the month before. The soap’s currently airing scenes are taped about a month in advance.

In a video shared to X (formerly Twitter) on June 30, Kin updated his followers on the long road to recovery since that surgery left him sidelined.

The actor opened up his video message by explaining that a year ago, he was under the care of “some arrogant surgeon” for a surgical procedure. “And he botched it! So, for six months, I basically couldn’t walk.”

Shriner went on to explain that his good friend, GH alum John Stamos (ex-Blackie), stepped up and recommended a podiatrist he had used at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. The doctor “redid” the original procedure. Ever since, the actor added, he has been working hard at his recovery from his home base in Florida.

“I’m down here at old Fort Lauderdale, rehabbing this foot every day,” he shared. “Every day, so that I can get mobile.”

Shriner has also been devoted to rehabbing his injury through regular workouts at the local Powerhouse Gym franchise. “You gotta get it back!” he says about mobility. “Something goes wrong, you fix it. Or you try to. Anyway, that’s what I’ve been up to.”

Six months after his final surgery, Shriner told Soaps In Depth that he was fully healed. “The pains, those are gone. They say it takes about six months before you forget about it.” Even the actor’s surgeon at the time was impressed with his recovery. “Every time he takes an X-ray, he then likes to take a selfie with my foot because he’s very pleased with his work. It was a success. He stuck a couple screws on the top of my foot, and I’ve had to slowly rehab it at the gym. Case closed!”
