It was the twist that “General Hospital” fans didn’t see coming, despite it being right in front of their faces. After seven years of playing Sasha Gilmore, Sofia Mattsson has exited the role. Her character was often a true damsel in distress, experiencing everything from kidnapping to the loss of her husband and baby. Sasha has been through it all, so it only made sense that she left Port Charles to protect her new daughter, Daisy.
If Sasha had to go, then at least “General Hospital” gave her the most amazing send-off possible. Jason delivered the character and her infant daughter to the safety of her father, Robert Scorpio. Tristan Rogers hadn’t been seen on camera since November 2024, and his appearance with Sasha was on the same day that the actor announced his cancer diagnosis. There was something extra beautiful about watching their final scenes together, and afterward, fans flooded Sofia’s latest Instagram post with a mixture of emotions.
Fans Will Miss Sofia Mattsson’s Portrayal of Sasha
ABCWhen Sofia posted her latest Instagram update from Sweden, fans assumed that she was just off enjoying the summer break that “General Hospital” has been on for the last few weeks. Once her final scenes aired, the comments on her post shifted from the gorgeous scenery to the actress’s exit from the soap.
“We are going to miss you oh GH!! I loved how you played Sasha. Good luck in whatever you do next!!!” posted rxk8t08 in the comments section. Lovebees1018 added, “Sorry to see Sasha and Daisy go. You were great on GH. I hope you’re having a good time in your homeland!”
Sscott2205 commented, “I thought they were putting Sasha with Jason which I was loving, then when Michael came back I loved Sasha with him. I so hope she hasn’t left GH. Sasha is my favorite.” Lookin4jul chimed in, “Sofia Has chemistry with every actor she is paired with. Even the ones who haven’t had chemistry with anyone else she brings it.”
GH’s executive producer, Frank Valentini, has confirmed her exit to TV Insider, saying, “There was a good time in the storyline for Sofia to leave to pursue other opportunities in film and TV, but she is open for a return in the future. I love Sofia; she is a great actress and a dear friend. We will miss her, but we wish her the best in all of her future endeavors.”
Even Sofia Hopes That Sasha Returns to Port Charles
When Rory Gibson took over the role of Michael Corinthos in May 2025, his immediate chemistry with Sofia Mattsson was palpable, and there was a sort of expectation that their characters would reunite, especially since they now share baby Daisy. The actress spoke with TV Insider about her exit and her thoughts on Sasha and Michael.
“I’m a bit of a romantic, so I’m particularly fond of all the love stories! I think her love with Brando [Corbin, Johnny Wactor] was so beautiful and pure. And I really feel like Sasha and Michael have a unique and strong love. I’ve gotten an overwhelmingly positive response to our chemistry since Rory took over the role. Who knows in the future? I’m rooting for Sasha and Michael to reunite one day!”
For now, Sofia says that leaving GH is “bittersweet for sure. I’ve had such a great time, but I’m also excited for a new chapter and to continue my acting journey in new projects.” It’s also good to hear that she is open to a return down the road.
