CBS is stepping into the audio streaming space with a new podcast designed especially for soap opera fans.
The network announced the debut of “Soapy”, a podcast hosted by daytime television veterans Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart, known for their work on “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “Days of Our Lives,” respectively.
From Soap Legends to New Voices: ‘Soapy’ Dives Into Drama’s Legacy
After getting her start on “Guiding Light,” the actress went on to build a decades-long soap opera career with standout roles in “All My Children” and “General Hospital.” Since 2024, she has portrayed Taylor Hayes in “The Bold and the Beautiful.”
Budig’s co-host Rikaart is widely recognized for playing Kevin Fisher on “The Young and the Restless” since 2003 and Leo Stark on “Days of Our Lives” since 2022.
According to Deadline, “Soapy” will explore the history, impact, and fandom of soap operas — both classic and current. Each episode will feature interviews with some of the genre’s most beloved stars, offering fans a behind-the-scenes look at the world of daytime drama. Confirmed guests include Maurice Benard, Scott Clifton, Melody Thomas Scott, and Eva LaRue.
A Promising New Chapter for Soap Opera Fandom
In an Instagram post announcing the series, CBS wrote, “Love soap operas? 🫧 Go behind-the-scenes with the drama, the stories, the real stars! The #Soapy podcast is coming to you starting July 8th!”
Fans quickly flooded the comments with excitement and support. One user wrote, “How amazing! Love this,” while another added, “Wow. Can’t wait. Congratulations 🙌.” Many also shared their hopes for future episodes, with one fan commenting, “I hope to see cast members from @beyondthegatescbs be interviewed!! First soap I’ve ever watched and I’m obsessed.”
While soap operas have been a staple of American pop culture for decades, “Soapy” marks a new era of engagement, bringing fans closer to the stars and stories they love. With two fan-favorite hosts and a rotating lineup of high-profile guests, the podcast is poised to become a central hub for the soap opera community.
“Having two seasoned genre legends like Rikaart and Budig fronting the podcast is a great way of being able to connect better with fans, and provide a fun peek behind the curtain at the inner workings of soap operas,” Deadline reported.
According to Screen Rant, episodes of “Soapy” will stream weekly on the CBS YouTube channel and Audacy, making the content widely accessible. The series will launch with Eric Braeden, star of “The Young and the Restless,” as its first guest.
