Billy Flynn on Leaving ‘DOOL’ for ‘Y&R’: ‘It Wasn’t for Money’

Billy Flynn is gearing up for his big debut on “The Young and the Restless” next week, and fans are already buzzing with excitement.

Back in March, the actor announced that he had left “Days of Our Lives” to take on a new role in the popular CBS soap. The news came as a shock to many fans, as he had spent over a decade playing Chad DiMera on the long-running Peacock series.

Billy Flynn Explains Shocking Exit from ‘Days of Our Lives’

Many are now curious about the reason behind Flynn’s big decision to leave “Days of Our Lives.” In the latest issue of TV Guide Magazine, as cited by Soap Central, the actor admitted that he had reached a point where he felt he had done all he could with his character, Chad.

I felt like my version of Chad had run its course. It wasn’t for money. I wanted to feel excited again about the work, and I wanted to work with different people and learn more.

So when “The Young and the Restless” head writer Josh Griffith offered him the role, Flynn felt it was the right time for a new challenge. Despite the risks, the actor left a stable role on “Days of Our Lives” with the support of his wife, Gina Comparetto.

“The universe works in mysterious ways,” Flynn said, adding that he’s very happy with his big move.

Flynn Teases ‘The Young & the Restless’ Debut

Flynn is set to make his “The Young and the Restless” debut on June 16. In the same interview, the actor revealed his first scenes are with the legendary Eric Braeden, who plays the powerful Victor Newman.

“We got along from the jump,” Flynn gushed about Braeden. “He’s just super kind and sweet to me. I felt like he gave me the blessing, and that made me feel good.”

As for whether he’s playing Aristotle Dumas, Flynn remains tight-lipped. But given his first scenes with Victor Newman, he’s likely connected to the mysterious character one way or another.

Plus, his debut coincides with Dumas’ soirée in France, so there’s definitely something there. What kind of drama will he bring on “Y&R”?

Meanwhile, fans can still see Flynn as Chad on “Days of Our Lives” until early 2026 due to the soap filming nine months in advance, per Michael Fairman TV.

Catch “The Young and the Restless” airing weekdays on CBS, and “Days of Our Lives” airing weekdays on Peacock.
