Alan Cumming to Sport ‘Way More Dramatic’ Costumes for ‘The Traitors’ Season 4, Stylist Confirms

Celebrity stylist Sam Spector has dressed A-List actors like Andy Samberg, Daniel Radcliffe and Neil Patrick Harris for countless red carpet appearances, but perhaps his most prolific styling work to date, has been dressing Alan Cumming for “The Traitors.”

Spector has been styling the Emmy-winning host’s extravagant, theatrical, and distinctly Scottish-inspired costumes since the show launched its first season in 2023. Now, two seasons later, with Season 4 currently in pre-production, and an additional two seasons have been ordered by Peacock, Spector and Cumming are hard at work coming up with even more jawdropping looks.

Following the official cast announcement for “The Traitors” Season 4 on June 13, Spector teased that the upcoming season will see Cummings don costumes that are “way more dramatic” than ever before.

Spector Teases ‘Glitz and Glamour’ for Season 4 Costumes

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Spector opened up about styling Cumming’s “dandy Scottish Laird” character for “The Traitors.”

“This is all new for me, being a costume designer. It has created a whole new part of my career and afforded me so much creative vision and fun. Having Alan be open to doing these crazy looks, as a host playing a character, is such a unique moment in reality television,” explained Spector, adding, “No one really does it other than RuPaul, you know?”

Inspired by classic James Bond villains, Spector has previously styled Cumming’s “Mad King” character in jewel-toned tartans, silk sashes, and even a beret sprouting peacock feathers.

“In a way, I am in drag as the host of this show,” commented Cumming in a previous interview

When it comes to preparations for Season 4’s costumes, Spector revealed that he and Cumming are “in the middle of it.”

“It feels like a ‘Project Runway’ workroom, where we’re scrambling to get each detail finished – like literally, they come to pick up the clothes to take to Scotland and it’s ‘scissors down, time’s up’,” he added.

Teasing what’s to come for Cumming’s spectacular Season 4 wardrobe, Spector revealed, “It’s way more dramatic, way more theatrical, a lot more sequins, glitz and glamour. I think we’ve kind of lost our minds for next season, and that’s the only way we would have it!”

Cumming Says His Costumes Are Part of ‘the Fabric of the Show’

“I’ve unleashed the beast in [Spector],” said Cumming in an interview with Out magazine ahead of Season 3’s finale. “And I really love that.”

“People are so excited and interested in what I wear. So now, every time we’re like, ‘Oh, my God, what are we going to do? What are we going to do next?’.”

Speaking further on his “Traitors” fashion legacy, that he says “goes against the political flow in terms of the [gender] binary,” Cummings told Out: “I feel if you see me, you’re having fun…and you’re looking forward to what I’m going to wear next, and I’m wearing some sort of non-masculine ensemble…then maybe when you see someone walking down the street in clothes that you don’t normally associate them with wearing, or society hasn’t associated them with wearing, then maybe you’ll be a bit more understanding.”

The host, who is similarly set to reprise his role as Nightcrawler in Marvel’s “Avengers: Doomsday” next year, added that Spector’s costumes have become “a part of the fabric of the show.”
