’The Amazing Race’ Season 38: Everything We Know So Far

“The Amazing Race” Season 37 is set to air its finale episode tonight (Thursday, May 15), bringing an end to the “season of surprises.” With brand-new twists and returning roadblocks, the season challenged players at every turn, leaving just three teams vying for the million dollar grand prize in tonight’s finale leg.

But as one season comes to an end, another is breaking over the horizon — Here’s everything we know about “The Amazing Race” Season 38 (so far!)

What We Know: Premiere Date, Airtime and Host

CBS confirmed that the long-running reality competition series would be returning for yet another season on May 11, when the network announced its 2025-2026 primetime schedule

While an official release date for the upcoming season has yet to be announced, fans can likely expect “The Amazing Race” Season 38 to premiere in October. The program has traditionally debuted a week or two after “Survivor,” which typically premieres in September. CBS has confirmed that “The Amazing Race” will continue to air on Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. ET.

A finale date for Season 38 also remains a mystery, but will likely occur 11 or 12 weeks after the premiere, following modern seasons’ trend of running for 12 legs.

The series will similarly continue the trend of airing 90-minute episodes each week. This trend was introduced in Season 35, partially in response to the then-ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

Host Phil Keoghan is set to return for Season 38. The New Zealand native has been hosting the series since its inception in 2001, and has similarly worked with CBS as the host and executive producer of “Tough as Nails.”

What We Know: Rumored Cast and Season 38 Roadmap

While the cast of the upcoming season has yet to be officially announced, during an interview with “Survivor” alum Rob Cesternino, former “Amazing Race” contestant Will Kirby suggested that Season 38 would feature teams composed of former “Big Brother” contestants and their loved ones.

“Big Brother” contestants have found success on “The Amazing Race” in the past, with former “Big Brother” house guests Cody Nickson and Jessica Graf winning the race on Season 30. In Season 34, “Big Brother” Season 23 alum Derek Xiao and Claire Rehfuss took home the million dollar prize.

Journalist Sharon Tharp, who has historically reported on rumored reality competition casts, seemingly confirmed these rumors in a post on X, which claimed, “The #TAR38 cast, which will feature Big Brother players and loved ones, leaves for sequester today. I’m actually a little more excited than I thought I would be, but everyone’s expectations are different!”

The cast was allegedly sequestered on March 13, with filming rumored to have taken place between March 13 and April 9. Eagle-eyed fans reported spotting the teams at airports in Los Angeles and Detroit as they began the race. The rumored road map for the upcoming season will reportedly feature stops in the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Croatia, Romania and Italy.

Fans can likely expect at least 13 teams to join in on the race around the world. For most of its history, “The Amazing Race” cast 11 teams of two, though this number expanded to 13 in Season 35 and 36. The currently-airing Season 37 featured the series’ largest-ever cast of 14 teams, though it remains unclear if Season 38 will follow this trend.
