It’s easy to see the draw to “Destination X.” Travel around Europe, and possibly win $250,000 if you can guess correctly where you are? But as the first episode showed, the experience of driving for hours on a bus with the windows blacked out can be disorientating. You also need to be careful who you trust, as Josh Martinez quickly found out when he listened to Rick Szabo and put his X on Milan instead of Rome.
With Martinez gone, 11 contestants remain. Who will go home this week, and what drama will occur? Keep reading for Episode 2 spoilers.
‘I Don’t Trust Rick’: The Contenders Sizing Each Other Up After First Elimination
“We’re leaving Rome, a city of conquest, and heading to a city that prides itself on peace,” host Jeffrey Dean Morgan says in Episode 2’s voiceover. “But there’s nothing peaceful about what I’ve got planned.”
Allyson “Ally” Bross admits that she’s “starting to like everyone,” and she thinks “Shayne [Cureton] is gorgeous.” Meanwhile, Shayne’s strategy for winning is to form alliances. He’s also focused on creating a bond with Christian “Biggy” Bailey after deciding that “he could be one of the biggest threats in the game.” Biggy, as well, admits that forming bonds with people he considers trustworthy is key to gaining knowledge as to their whereabouts.
Pretty soon, everyone is awake and discussing Josh’s exit in Episode 1, with most agreeing it was “shocking.” The other contestants are dubious of Rick’s claims that he wasn’t trying to mislead anyone when he told Josh that they were in Milan. Rick remains steadfast in his belief that he was hurt when Josh “threw him under the bus,” and announces that he wants to form an alliance of his own. His request is met with stony silence.
“I don’t trust Rick,” Tai Lowry said in her confessional. “I’m not going to be working with him closely.”
Jonah Evarts remarks that they must be heading south because he can see the sun, and then laughs, acknowledging that means nothing to him. He imagines they’re all in Homer’s Odyssey, and he loves how unpredictable everything is.
The Players Are Dropped Right Into a Winter Wonderland
Morgan appears on the screen and informs the cast that they’re “taking it up a notch” for the next challenge. He tells them that they’re only 130 miles away from their next destination X. After putting on goggles to get a clue, they’re all standing on a gorgeous snowy mountainside in three teams.
“I’ve never seen anything like this,” Tai said. “It’s just like a postcard jumped out and came to life.” Rachel Rosette immediately thought they were in Germany, while Jonah thought it was the Alps. Jeffrey contacts them via walkie-talkie and tells them they’re 10,000 feet up on a mountain. Their challenge is to light a fire, which will signal the rescue helicopter.
He tells them the good news: what they need to build a fire is already on the mountain. The bad news: it’s all buried, and they need to use clues to figure out what country they’re in to find the supplies. The maps they’re left with show different snow piles containing three famous figures, three dogs, and three types of food. The figures are labeled: Victor Frankenstein, Roger Federer, and Timothée Chalamet. The dogs and food are not.
If they correctly match the dog and food with the famous figure from that country, they’ll get “the best fire-building tools.” Choose incorrectly, and the tools will have them “building fires the caveman way.” Whoever guesses correctly will not only have a great view but also a clue to what the next destination X is.
The Purple Team Learn They’re in Switzerland But Hide It From the Others
The challenge begins, and each team heads to a different mound of snow. After trial and elimination, Roger Federer, Frankenstein, the Saint Bernard, and the box of chocolates are revealed as the correct answers, and each team selects a different container of tools. The yellow team, consisting of Mack Fitzgerald, Shayne, and Jonah, can’t get their fire lit with the flint. The red team, comprising Kim, Biggy, and Tai, is also experiencing trouble. The purple team — Rick, Ally, and Rachel — gets their fire lit first.

“Seeing Rick, Ally, and Rachel win this challenge… ugh,” Tai said to the camera. “It just makes me sick.” The red and yellow teams look on in jealousy as the purple group leaves in the helicopter. As it circles one area — the Sphinx Observatory in Jungfraujoch, Switzerland — they see a flag. Rachel exclaims, “Oh my god, we’re in Switzerland!” The three then decide not to tell the others what they saw.
Rick reveals in his confessional that he wants to tell someone, but he’s trying to decide who to team up with. Later, he’s shown whispering to Shayne and Biggy about the Swiss flag. Unfortunately, Shayne still doesn’t trust him.
Meanwhile, Rachel begins to misdirect players who ask her what was in their toolbox, in an attempt to make them think they’re in Germany, not Switzerland. It seems to work, as Mack still believes they’re in Germany.
Tai and Ally chat alone, and Ally tells her about the Swiss flag. The two agree that they don’t trust Rick and Rachel, and Tai pinky promises that she won’t tell anyone else that they’re in Switzerland.
Contestants Decide Who’s Sent to Map Room in Biggest Twist Yet
They’re now 50 miles from destination X. “The Walking Dead” star discloses in the voiceover that the next clue will reveal the town they’re in, as well as allow them to avoid the map room and elimination altogether.
The players remove their goggles and are standing in front of a lodge in a green field. They’re delighted to find that picturesque mountains and trees surround them.
There is an envelope from Jeffrey. He tells them they will decide who is going to the map room. A cuckoo clock will tell them when the challenge begins, and when it goes off once, one must enter the lodge. Twice, two players go inside, and so on. “All will be revealed when you get inside,” the message states.
Shayne is the first to go in, and Jeffrey is waiting for him. He informs him that he gets to pick five players to go into the map room. He chooses Rachel, Mack, Jonah, Biggy, and Ally.
Next up are Ally and Tai. He shows them an array of ten bells and tells them he’s going to ring a sequence. If they guess five correctly, they can swap one player from the map room to the safe room. If they remember the whole sequence, they can swap two people. They remember all ten and send Kim and Rick to the map room.
Rachel, Mack, and Biggy also get the sequence correct, and they swap Ally and Tai. Jonah swaps with Mack, while Rick and Kim swap with Rachel and Jonah. Kim tells Jonah that he’s “the weakest” out of the group, and Jonah is hurt. Rachel is furious, and feels underestimated. “They’re going to see eventually that I am somebody that they’re not going to want to mess with,” she said in the confessional.
Jonah Gets the Boot on Episode 2 of ‘Destination X’
The contestants get back on the bus and are headed to the map room to guess the city they’re in. Jeffrey is disappointed that they all missed a significant clue that he left for them in the lodge.
Mack thinks they’re in Lake Geneva, but isn’t sure. Ally divulges to the camera that she was paying attention at the lodge, and believes the city is Geneva. But when talking to Jonah, she lies and tells him she thinks they’re in Bern.
Ally, Tai, Jonah, Rachel, and Mack go into the map room. Afterwards, Jeffrey gets on the bus where everyone is waiting, and informs them that Jonah is leaving. Everyone gets extremely emotional as they say goodbye, and Jonah leaves the bus.
Outside, Jeffrey informs Jonah that they’re in Lake Geneva, 105 miles from Bern. “It’s strangely fitting that the most peaceful person on that bus is leaving here in Switzerland,” Jeffrey told him. “Land of peace and neutrality.” He tells him that Jonah and the next closest player — Mack — were three miles apart. “Let me tell you how these reality games work, man,” Jeffrey tells him, as they walk off to get fondue.
