In the last week, CBS provided more information on its upcoming unscripted series set to debut this fall, including the premiere dates for the highly-anticipated reality competition series like “Survivor 49” and “The Amazing Race” Season 38.
Just one year shy of its 25th anniversary – a feat that rival series like “Survivor” and “Big Brother” achieved this year – “The Amazing Race” kicked off 2025 by welcoming 14 new pairs of contestants to compete in yet another race around the world when Season 37 debuted in March.
CBS/GettyThe long-running series will return this September, featuring not only the return of Phil Keoghan, who has helmed the show since its 2001 debut, but also a cast composed entirely of former “Big Brother” Houseguests and their loved ones.
While plenty remains to be discovered about this fall’s “Amazing Race,” including the official identities of its reality TV alum racers, here’s everything to know (so far) about “The Amazing Race” Season 38.
When Will ‘The Amazing Race’ Season 38 Premiere?
CBS has officially announced that Season 38 of “The Amazing Race” will premiere on Thursday, September 25, at 9:00pm ET – a change from the show’s usual primetime slot, which has typically aired on Wednesday nights after new episodes of “Survivor.” That being said, Season 38 will return to its normal 90-minute slot on CBS Wednesdays for Episode 2 on October 1, airing from 8:30-10:00pm ET.
While “The Amazing Race” previously followed a two-seasons-per-year format like “Survivor,” the competition series rolled back production in recent years, airing only one season in 2023 and 2024. Seeing two “Amazing Race” seasons in 2025 signals a return to form for the series.
Assuming that the upcoming season follows the same 12-leg format as previous seasons, “The Amazing Race” Season 38 will likely air its finale on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, though this date has not yet been confirmed by CBS.
When and Where did ‘The Amazing Race’ Season 38 Film?
Phil Keoghan, who has spent upwards of two decades as the host and producer of “The Amazing Race,” confirmed that Season 38 was underway in an Instagram post on March 18. The post included a video message from Keoghan to fans, delivered from the starting line of “The Amazing Race” Season 38 in the Netherlands.
“I’m waiting for teams to arrive here for the start of Season 38,” said Keoghan in the video. “Our contestants have just touched down. They’ll be making their way here. They are out of the house and ready for this season of ‘The Amazing Race’.”
The host’s comments hinted at the season’s now-confirmed all-star cast, composed entirely of former “Big Brother” players and their relations. Set to compete alongside their parents, siblings, children, best friends, and even co-workers, fans similarly noted that Keoghan’s video was filmed in Hoorn, the birthplace of the “Big Brother” franchise.
While the exact filming length of Season 38 remains a mystery, typical seasons take between 21-30 days to film, separated, usually, into 12 legs in a dozen or more countries around the globe. Though not officially confirmed, spoilers for the upcoming season suggest stops in the Netherlands, Prague, Budapest, Athens, Paris, New York City, and more.
Which Former ‘Big Brother’ Stars are Rumored to Join ‘The Amazing Race’ for Season 38?
Though the official cast of “The Amazing Race” Season 38 has yet to be confirmed, Phil Keoghan did sit down with longtime “Big Brother” host Julie Chen Moonves to reveal the major reality TV show crossover.
“They’re savvy. Julie, you’ve created some savvy creatures,” said Keoghan of the forthcoming cast in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “They came in hungry, confident, a little cocky. I think they got humbled in the first leg. We’ve got some former ‘Big Brother’ winners. So they know how to win, they know how to compete. It was very, very competitive.”
The full cast list will be revealed at a later date, though early rumors suggest the presence of “Big Brother” stars like Natalie Negrotti, Kyland Young, Hannah Chaddah, Enzo Palumbo and more.
