‘The Amazing Race’ Host Phil Keoghan Breaks Down the Final Four Teams of Season 37

The remaining globetrotters on “The Amazing Race” will reach the end of their world tour in the two-part finale of Season 37. Part One of the finale will air on CBS on Wednesday, May 14, while Part Two will follow on Thursday, May 15, when one of the four remaining teams will be the first to cross the finish line and secure the million-dollar win.

Keoghan Comments on ‘Unique’ 37th Season

So far the race has taken its contestants across the globe with challenges requiring them to travel to destinations like Hong Kong, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, and France. The upcoming finale will watch as the remaining four teams travel from France to Germany and Portugal on Leg 11 before returning to Miami, Florida for the final leg of “The Amazing Race” Season 37.

Ahead of the two-part finale, “The Amazing Race” host Phil Keoghan sat down with TVLine to discuss the season’s final four teams: Han and Holden, Jonathan and Ana, Carson and Jack, and Alyssa and Josiah.

“This particular season was unique,” said Keoghan. “We started off with having surprises in every single episode and I think that worked pretty well, [but] it was back to the things that everybody loves. No matter what kind of twists and turns and hiccups we put into the show, at the end of the day, the things [fans] really talk about the most are the simple things: the self-driving, the airport drama and the fundamental elements of ‘The Amazing Race,’ which is going to new places and doing new things with new people,” he continued.

Keoghan Opens Up About the Final Four Teams

Speaking on the final four teams, Keoghan addressed each remaining pair individually, starting with Han and Holden Nguyen, siblings from Los Gatos, California. Of the remaining teams, Han and Holden are the youngest, at just 26 and 22 respectively.

Keoghan discussed how he initially underestimated the duo due to their age, telling TVLine, “Generally speaking, there is a direct correlation between teams that are younger and how well they do. Older teams who have lived a little bit more tend to do better because they’re just a little bit more worldly. And that brother/sister dynamic and being younger, I wasn’t sure that they were going to go as far as they have because I just didn’t think that they had the worldliness, if you like, to be able to hand in, but they have.”

“I think [Han and Holden] are going into the Final 4 pretty confidently, proving they can get stronger and stronger” added Keoghan.

The host then turned to married couple Jonathan and Ana Towns. The parents from Pomona, California have performed well this season, placing first in Leg 2, Leg 4, and Leg 9, despite their frequent squabbling throughout the race. Jonathan and Ana’s frequent disagreements have led Keoghan to refer to the couple as the season’s “most controversial team.”

“Regardless of whatever is going on in that dynamic,” Keoghan added, “They are a very strong team[…]They should be incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved.”

When it came to married nurses Alyssa and Josiah Borden, Keoghan admitted that the couple is “definitely in for a good shot [at winning]” after already placing first in two Legs.

“I would say Alyssa’s really taken the lead,” said Keoghan. “I think Josiah would agree with that. She really has been, to me, the driving force in that team, and a big reason why they’ve done well. But they compliment each other well too. They really listen to each other. They’ve worked off each other’s strengths and weaknesses. They have been incredibly encouraging of each other, and I think that’s what makes them such a strong team,” he added.

Finally, Keoghan discussed best friends and gamers Carson McCalley and Jack Dodge, saying that the duo have made the most of their journey on “The Amazing Race.”

“They’re just having a great time,” said Keoghan, adding, “To me, that’s the best part. The teams I really love are the ones that are in it to have a lot of fun and who find their flow by having fun. [Carson and Jack are] one of those teams.”

The host concluded: “I think [Carson and Jack] have it in their head that, come what may, they already won just because they got to be in this race, and I really love that attitude from them.”

Which duo will cross the finish line first? Find out in the “stormy” conclusion to “The Amazing Race” Season 37 on Thursday, May 15 on CBS, as the remaining teams jet back to the United States to race to the finish amidst a “major weather bomb.”
