Terry Dubrow Shares Parenting Update: ‘We Have Such a Rainbow of Kids’

“The Real Housewives of Orange County” stars Terry and Heather Dubrow have four children, three of whom are part of the LGBTQ+ community. In an interview with E! News, Terry Dubrow opened up about parenting their children and using their platform for good.

The plastic surgeon and “Botched” star said he has commented to his wife, “We have such a rainbow of kids.” 14-year-old Ace is transgender, 18-year-old Kat has come out as gay, and 21-year-old Max, twin sister of Nick, has shared she is bisexual.

According to Dubrow, he and Heather are happy to use their reality TV visibility to provide an example of a healthy, supportive family. “We were chosen for it. That’s what we’re supposed to do with our platform,” he said.

Dubrow’s Advice for Parents

When it comes to giving parenting advice, Dubrow is pretty straightforward. “You may have your biases and your preconceived notions, but it ain’t about you, it’s about them …,” he shared. He also emphasized the importance of listening and providing a loving environment.

But Dubrow also shared a tip that seems wise coming from a reality TV personality. “Act like there are cameras around and that you’re going to be held accountable for the way you act,” he said, adding, “That immediately removes all of your preconceived douchiness you might have.”

Having a supportive partner doesn’t hurt either. Dubrow referred to his wife, Heather, as the “most fabulous mother and wife.”

The Dubrow Children Support Each Other

One benefit of having a large brood is that kids can often lean on each other for support. That’s certainly been the case for the Dubrow siblings who confide in their brother Nick. “He’s the one they go to on the sibling level to have these conversations …,” Dubrow said, calling his son “the glue of our family.”

The surgeon couldn’t resist using a bit of medical lingo when speaking on his children’s relationship with each other. He explained that when the younger kids turn to Nick, “They just want to have more of a curbside consult. Because they do that with us, it’s a procedure,” he explained.

Another aspect of the kids’ well-being is their community, as the family recently moved from the O.C. to Beverly Hills, switching schools in the process. It appears as though the new environment is more welcoming, as Dubrow shared, “[The] rainbow shines brighter up here than it does in Orange County.”
