Former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Teddi Mellencamp shared a positive update about her ongoing battle with melanoma.
“Going in for my continual 3-month skin checks is never easy. The anxiety always takes over; the thought of another biopsy, another surgery, another addition to the scar on my back,” she captioned an Instagram post on December 16. In the attached video, Mellencamp couldn’t contain her tears.
“And I always end up crying. But today the tears were those of joy. Because for the first time there wasn’t anything abnormal, nothing that needed an extra look. And I am grateful,” she added.
Mellencamp was first diagnosed with melanoma in 2022. In the time since, she’s undergone surgery and other treatment, mainly on her back.
Fans Reacted to Teddi Mellencamp’s Happy Health Update
Shortly after Mellencamp shared the emotional post on social media, dozens of fans took to the comments section to react. Many let the former reality star know that she has inspired them to keep up with their dermatology appointments.
“So happy for good news! I did my Teddi check last month – nothing abnormal! We appreciate you talking about it and reminding us,” one person wrote.
“You are definitely not alone in that response. I have found that over time, and with more problem-free visits, it does lessen in intensity. Here’s to many, many, many more uneventful check-ups,” someone else said.
“Because of you I’ve been more diligent in scheduling my skin checks. Thank you for sharing your journey. So happy for your good news,” a third comment read.
“Sooo happy for you from one cancer survivor to another. I’ve gone from every three months to every six months to once a year now. You GOT this,” a fourth Instagram user added.
Teddi Mellencamp Has Shared Her Cancer Journey With Fans
Mellencamp first shared her diagnosis publicly in March 2022.
“On my way to work which is why I am all glammed up. However, this is a reminder to please go get your yearly skin checks. I had been avoiding mine bc of my own anxiety for a very long time but when @kylerichards18 saw my back and it had changed colors again, she immediately took me to the doc who within minutes said it looks like melanoma and did a big removal,” Mellencamp said on Instagram in March 2022.
She received some good news from her tests: the cancer was in “situ,” which means the cancer cells were contained.
However, another spot showed stage II later the same year.
“Melanoma awareness update. Despite my anxiety, I listened to the doctors and went in for my 3-month skin check last week since my previous melanoma. They said I had another abnormal spot near my last one so they did a biopsy. I got the call this morning: Stage 2 melanoma,” Mellencamp said on Instagram in October 2022.
Every three months that Mellencamp went back for skin checks, she received bad news.
In September 2023, she shared a sad photo along with a picture of the scars on her back — and another new area of concern.
“I can’t even remember if this is the 12th or 13th one,” she captioned caption an Instagram post. “At this point, I am starting to black-out these memories like a portion of my childhood. I slept maybe 2 hours last night because my mind was racing,” she added.
