Former stars of E! network’s “Meet the Frasers,” Matt and Alexa Fraser, say she was asked by “The Real Housewives of Rhode Island” producers to join the new Bravo franchise.
In an appearance on David Yontef’s “Behind the Velvet Rope,” podcast on June 17, Matt, who gained popularity as a medium, revealed that producers had been scouting for talent as far as two years ago.
Alexa said that at the time, the producers referred to the show as, “a Rhode Island show about Italian families.”
“There was this Instagram post that went around Rhode Island, and Rhode Island’s a small state. So it was like, ‘We’re looking for the next big family to be on television,'” Matt added.
He continued, “And everybody and their brother applied. So like everybody and their brother went and did this casting. This was before they called it ‘Housewives.'”
“They kept coming back to us and wanting us to be on. And I told them, ‘I don’t want to be on that show.’ I personally don’t want to be on that show because they had a meeting with me. I was honest with them because I don’t like the negativity. I don’t like the drama like that. I’m just not that type of person,” Matt shared.
Alexa said that the network went so far as to send a higher-up to their house to convince her to join “RHORI.”
“That’s when he told me in person, ‘Listen, this has potential to be Housewives,'” she said on the podcast.
Alexa Asked ‘RHONJ’ Star Caroline Manzo for Advice
Alexa revealed on “Behind the Velvet Rope” that she turned to Caroline Manzo for advice on “RHORI.”
“She just gave it to me straight. She was real. And she was like, ‘Listen, you know, with what you’re telling me in the way that you and Matt are, with your kids, it just doesn’t sound like it’s going to be for you. It just doesn’t,'” Alexa said.
“And she was basically saying, like, you know, no amount of fame, no amount of money, you know, some of her connections that she made … she said it still wasn’t worth it,” the mom of two continued.
Matt added, “She said the first three seasons, she said they laughed, they were a family. These girls loved one another. These women were all, and she said it was fun. She said it was so much fun.”
He said, “And then the moment that the drama started to hit and the ratings started to come in and there was more demand for drama, she said that’s when everything changed and it stopped being fun. And that’s really, really what kind of sunk in with us as well.”
“I love my husband. I love my children. I love my house. I cook, I clean, I take care of my kids. We go on little family trips, we do our thing. Like, I am very content and happy with my life. I am happy with what we’ve built together. I’m happy with my work and his work and just everything. We don’t need this,” Alexa said.
