Melissa Gorga set the record straight on how she has such a large social media following.
The “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star spoke out during a December 18 appearance on “Watch What Happens Live” after she was asked about recent claims from fellow Housewives stars that she “buys” social media followers.
“I mean it’s so crazy how I have so many successful businesses and I have created this platform,” Gorga told host Andy Cohen. “It’s actually very disappointing when your fellow women around you that watch you work so hard to create the brand that I’ve created. I obviously have multiple successful businesses and it’s insulting sometimes when they assume that like we cheated to do that.”
Gorga suggested that fans also like to follow her to get the latest updates on her businesses, her family, and to see her fashions. “Like how about they like to watch what I’m doing,” she said. “They love my cute kids, they love the family, they love Joe, they love the business.”
“I think it’s just not fair,” she added. “Like I work really hard I would never cheat. I don’t cheat I actually have I’m one of the few percent of Housewives that have very successful businesses, so sorry I have the followers. And I dress cute, so they want to see what I’m wearing!”
As of this writing, Melissa Gorga has 2.9 million Instagram followers. She runs multiple businesses, including her Envy clothing boutiques in Ridgewood, New Jersey, and Huntington, New York, as well as her “On Display” podcast, and her newly launched sprinkle cookie business.
2 ‘Real Housewives of Miami’ Stars Claimed Melissa Gorga Bought Instagram Followers
During a “Watch What Happens Live” taping at Bravo Fan Fest in November, Cohen asked “Real Housewives of Miami” star Kiki Barth to name a Bravolebrity that she thinks has paid for followers on social media.
“You know, that lady. I’ve seen it myself. Not Teresa [Giudice], the other one,” Barth replied, before adding, “Yes, Melissa. I’ve seen it myself.”
Cohen added that Barth’s co-star Alexia Nepola once accused Gorga of buying followers after she pointed out that Gorga had a bigger following than Giudice.
Cohen took partial blame for the most recent comments from Barth. During the December WWHL epiosde, the Bravo host admitted to Gorga that he never should have asked the question and noted that Nepola is “also very good friends” with Gorga’s estranged sister-in-law, Giudice.
Joe Gorga Said His Wife’s Popularity Helps Other Housewives
Joe Gorga previously defended his wife as he pointed out what a hard worker she is. During a November appearance Melissa’s “On Display” podcast, Joe Gorga said stars from newer Housewives franchises should “appreciate the path” that his wife created for them. “I mean, you look at what you have done on Instagram and social media,” he said. “It’s helping them. It’s helping everybody. I mean, really, you’re self-made. You did this all on your own. You achieved everything on your own, and you killed it. So, you know, just like the show, you are who you are on social media, and that’s why people love you.”
Melissa Gorga chimed in to note that in addition to her Envy page, which has over 250,0000 followers alone, fans follow her due to her podcast, her multiple brand partnerships, and her cooking videos. “I mean I could give, there’s so many reasons so just like, watch and learn, girls!” she said.
