Travis Kelce On the Acting Role That Challenged Him: ‘I Just Didn’t Feel as Prepared’

Travis Kelce recently opened up about his acting career and what pushed him out of his comfort zone. “The serious acting,” Kelce told the hosts of the “Bussin’ with the Boys” podcast, referring to his role as Ed Laclan on FX’s “Grotesquerie.”

“… I was part of a really good cast. I think I got a lot of help and a lot of pointers from them,” Kelce shared. “When you go into acting … I just didn’t feel as prepared,” he explained, comparing it to the extensive planning he does before an NFL game.

Kelce seems to still be in the process of finding his footing when it comes to his acting career, admitting, “I just feel like I gotta find that professionalism before the cameras are on.”

He also expressed an eagerness to learn the craft, explaining that he’d tell the directors, “Coach me up, I’m here to be coached … I’ll take all criticism …”

Kelce’s ‘SNL’ Experience

According to Kelce, hosting “Saturday Night Live” was a more fun and easier gig. “… the silly stuff, the funny stuff, the comedy, I just feel so much more comfortable,” he explained. He was still a little self-conscious however, wanting to make sure he did a good job.

“I want to have fun doing it, but I don’t want to look like a loser doing this,” Kelce revealed. “… I want to make them respect my approach and how I’m taking it serious.”

There was one particularly difficult part of the “SNL” experience, and that was the table read. “… for a guy that can’t really read that well, it was kind of a [expletive] situation,” Kelce confessed. “I felt like I was just trying to get through the reading instead of, like, actually acting it out and giving it a voice …”

One of the hosts of “Bussin’ with the Boys” suggested that Kelce would be a great fit for the Netflix comedy “Tires,” which stars Shane Gillis. “That would be legendary,” Kelce agreed, clearly a huge fan.

He added, “Are you kidding me? I’d [expletive] kill to be in that.” Kelce went on to praise Gillis saying that the comic “killed it” when he hosted “SNL.”

As for his own future in acting, Kelce says it’s “still early” and expressed that he’s working on getting the hang of things. “I don’t feel like I grasped the acting world yet,” he shared.
