Zayn Malik Angry at Matt Lauer on ‘Today Show’ for Drug Abuse Rumors

Yesterday on the Today Show, One Direction celebrated the release of their latest album “FOUR” and band member Zayn Malik was noticeably absent. This prompted a Twitter trend among fans – Where is Zayn? Matt Lauer interviewed the boys prior to their many live performances and asked them where their band mate was. Liam Payne explained that Zayn had a very bad “tummy bug” or he would have been there. Lauer then questioned them about the possibility of substance abuse. You can watch the video above.

Of course, Zayn Malik was not happy when he heard about this and he told The Sun:

I’m really angry and upset by what was said on The Today Show. I was really ill at the weekend, that’s why I couldn’t fly to America. I was gutted to have to miss album release day, but I’m going to be back as soon as I can. As soon as I’m feeling better I’m going to join the guys and carry on with the promotion for the album.
