Luke Grimes is saddling up once again—but this time, he’s trading the Yellowstone Ranch for another badge. The 41-year-old actor confirmed he will reprise his role as Kayce Dutton in a brand-new CBS spinoff titled “Y: Marshals.” The series, which follows the events of the original “Yellowstone” finale, marks a dramatic new chapter for Kayce and a major addition to the expanding Taylor Sheridan universe.
Luke Grimes Drops the News—and Fans Are Here For It
Grimes confirmed the news of his return on Instagram, posting a photo of himself in character along with the caption, “Get ready y’all, because there’s a new marshal in town.” That one sentence was all it took to send fans into a frenzy in the comments.
“You were born to play Kayce!” one user wrote, while another added, “This is the best news I’ve heard all year.” The reaction was overwhelmingly positive, with many followers declaring they would absolutely be tuning in. One fan summed it up perfectly: “We needed this. Kayce Dutton isn’t done yet.”
The return of Grimes in the “Yellowstone” universe has long been speculated, especially after delays in filming the original series’ final episodes. His Instagram post made it official—and confirmed what many fans had hoped for: Kayce’s story isn’t over.
Everything We Know About ‘Y: Marshals’
On Wednesday, May 7, CBS announced its midseason schedule, and with it came the reveal of “Y: Marshals,” a new drama starring Grimes, per Deadline. After the Yellowstone series finale, the show picks up and follows Kayce as he leaves behind ranch life and steps into an entirely new world.
A CBS logline confirms that Kayce sold off much of the Yellowstone Ranch, closing one chapter of his life. Now, combining his rancher grit with his Navy SEAL training, he joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals. According to the network, the series will explore Kayce’s transition into his new role while navigating the emotional strain of balancing dangerous work with his family responsibilities.
“Y: Marshals” is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios with “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan on board as an executive producer. Grimes also serves as an executive producer alongside David C. Glasser, John Linson, Art Linson, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, and Spencer Hudnut, who will also serve as showrunner.
This isn’t the only spinoff in the works. Last September, Kelly Reilly—who plays Beth Dutton—confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that she and Cole Hauser will return as Beth and Rip in a potential new series of their own.
“Nothing is set in stone,” she said. “But if Taylor wants to write it, I would want to do it. That’s it.
“Y: Marshals” set to air Sundays at 9 p.m. on CBS, no premiere date has been set.
