The Dutton family drama may be wrapping up, but fans aren’t ready to say goodbye just yet. CBS has officially announced “Y: Marshals,” a brand-new “Yellowstone” spinoff starring Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton. And the internet went full cowboy mode in response.
Grimes confirmed the news via Instagram, posting a screenshot of Deadline’s article with the caption: “Cowboys don’t say goodbye; they say see you later.” “Yellowstone” fans immediately commented.

Within minutes of Grimes’ announcement, the comments section lit up with excitement, heart emojis, and cowboy hats. “So hyped for this! Kayce was one of my favorite characters,” one fan wrote.

According to the show’s official logline, “With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty, and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”
According to Deadline, CBS has already greenlit 13 episodes, with filming scheduled to begin this summer. The network plans to air the spinoff in early 2026, expanding the Sheridanverse’s reach into primetime network television.
When viewers last saw Kayce, he had signed the family ranch over to a Native tribe with the condition that the land could never be developed. He, Monica, and their son Tate were building a quieter life on a small corner of the property. But “Y: Marshals” is set to shift the tone entirely, diving into high-stakes justice in the rugged terrain of modern-day Montana.

Kayce’s new journey is only part of a much bigger picture. The “Yellowstone” universe continues to evolve with projects like “1923,” which just posted a staggering 146% ratings increase, and upcoming series like “The Madison,” starring Michelle Pfeiffer. There’s also the long-anticipated sequel focused on Beth and Rip, “Dutton Ranch,” plus other spinoffs like “6666” and “1944” in active development.
The move to CBS could open the franchise to an even broader audience and further cement its dominance in the Western drama space. With Luke Grimes at the helm of this new series, fans are already counting down the days until the Dutton legacy rides again.
