‘Wicked: For Good’ Finally Drops Teaser/Trailer

The “Wicked” wait is over! Fans of blockbuster film “Wicked” are getting their first taste of part two of the story of Elphaba and Galinda (Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande) thanks to a newly released teaser trailer.

And it comes just in time for Cynthia Erivo’s turn as host of the 78th annual Tony Awards, Sunday, June 8 .

“Wicked: For Good” is the second part of the two-film adaption of the Broadway musical by the same name. Part one ended with Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba escaping the Emerald City on a broom, branded a “wicked witch” by her former instructor Madame Morrible. (Michele Yeoh). Best friend Galinda refuses to go with Elphaba.

Part two picks up years later, with Elphaba now the hunted Wicked Witch of the West. The nearly three-minute long trailer hints at a number of things, including a scene that shows Ariana Grande’s character Galinda getting married. It also shows Elphaba determined to expose the Wizard of Oz as a fraud.

‘Wicked’ Movies Were Shot Together

While the storyline has a years-long gap, both movies were filmed at once, wrapping more than a year ago in January 2024. In fact, according to People, screenwriters and producers didn’t decide to split the film into two parts until they realized it was “too much story for one movie.” 

On her last day of shooting, Cynthia Erivo put up a post on Instagram that read, “I’ve been trying to think of what I’d say when this day finally came, and I’m failing miserably, because honestly there aren’t enough words to fully express what this experience has meant to me, so I’ll leave you with this.

The universe will take things away to make space for the grand gifts it has waiting for us. THIS moment, this film, these people, this cast, this crew, this director, my Glinda, were the Grandest gift I could ever have asked for, and I am eternally grateful for the chance to bring you This Elphie. I hope when you meet her, you’ll love her as much and as fiercely as I do.

‘Wicked: For Good’ Sure to Be Another Blockbuster

If fan anticipation is any indication, “Wicked: For Good” promises to be another blockbuster like its predecessor.

According to People, the first film “opened to rave reviews.” It also raked in $114 million across North American theaters on its opening weekend. It went on to receive ten Oscar Nominations, including nods for both Erivo and Grande.

“Wicked: For Good” ” hits theaters November 21.
