Daughter of Famous Star May Take Over for Anna Wintour at VOGUE

After 37 years of defining American fashion’s most powerful magazine, Anna Wintour is stepping down as editor-in-chief of Vogue, and a surprising frontrunner has emerged to fill her seat. Now, Chloe Malle, the current editor of Vogue.com, is said to be in the final rounds of interviews for the new role of head of editorial content for U.S. Vogue.

Chloe Malle’s Vogue Rise and Editorial Style

Malle, 39, is the daughter of actress Candice Bergen and French filmmaker Louis Malle, but she’s made her own name in the fashion world. Since joining Vogue in 2011, she’s led the site’s digital growth and landed high-profile cover stories, including a recent interview with Lauren Sánchez ahead of her lavish wedding to Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos. According to PageSix, she’s a favorite among Vogue staff, which could give her an edge as Condé Nast executives, including Wintour herself, finalize their decision.

The successor announcement is expected before New York Fashion Week kicks off on September 11. Wintour, 75, will retain her positions as Condé Nast’s global editorial director and chief content officer even after stepping away from the U.S. title.

Nicole Phelps, global director of Vogue Runway, is also being considered, while British Vogue’s Chioma Nnadi is said to be happy in her London role. Instagram’s Eva Chen and W Magazine’s Sara Moonves have reportedly stepped back from contention.

If chosen, Malle would not hold the traditional editor-in-chief title, but she would be the face steering Vogue’s editorial vision in a post-Wintour era.

Wintour’s Legacy and Vogue’s Next Chapter

Anna Wintour’s departure as editor-in-chief of American Vogue marks the end of a 37-year chapter. While she will remain global editorial director and chief content officer for Condé Nast, the U.S. edition is set to be led by a new head of editorial content. Alongside Malle, a few other names are reportedly still in the mix, including Nicole Phelps of Vogue Runway.

Other rumored contenders, such as Instagram’s Eva Chen and W Magazine head Sara Moonves, are no longer considered serious candidates due to commitments in their current roles. British Vogue’s Chioma Nnadi is said to be thriving in her position and not seeking a move.

The official announcement is expected before New York Fashion Week kicks off on September 11, a timing that would usher in a new creative era for Vogue at one of the most pivotal moments on the fashion calendar.
