“Today” show co-host Sheinelle Jones is mourning the loss of her husband, Uche Ojeh, who passed away at 45 after a long battle with cancer.
The sad news was confirmed by Jones’ colleagues on Friday, May 23, during the NBC morning show’s live broadcast. Savanah Guthrie announced:
With profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh, the husband of our friend and TODAY co-host Sheinelle Jones, has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma.
The “Today” host went on to express her sympathy for Jones and her three children with Ojeh.
There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children. Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him. And so we want to take a moment to tell you more about the remarkable man who was Sheinelle’s perfect partner in life.
Shortly after the segment aired, Jones shared the video on Instagram and thanked everyone for their love and support.
A Glimpse Into Jones and Ojeh’s Love Story
Jones and Ojeh first met at Northwestern University. At the time, the newscaster was a freshman while the Nigerian native was a high school senior visiting the campus. Jones offered to give Ojeh a tour and the two quickly became friends.
The couple dated for eight years before Ojeh popped the big question to Jones. He proposed at their alma mater in the middle of a rainstorm.
Jones and Ojeh tied the knot in 2007 and welcomed three children: Kayin, 15, and twins Clara and Uche, 12.
In December 2024, Jones took a leave of absence from the “Today” show, to deal with a “family health matter.” At the time, People reported that the situation was “serious” and that the health matter does not concern Jones herself or the three children.
