Terri Irwin remembered her late husband Steve Irwin on what would have been their 33rd wedding anniversary.
The 60-year-old conservationist shared a heartfelt tribute to their marriage on Tuesday, June 3, via Instagram.
“Today, 33 years ago, Steve and I were married in my grandmother’s church in Oregon. And it was the first day of my happily ever after,” she wrote.
The mom of two said she is “truly blessed” to have all of her memories.
“Every day I wake up with beautiful memories, so much love in my heart, and the promise of continuing his incredible legacy. I am truly blessed,” she added.
“The Crocodile Hunter” died in September 2006 at the age of 44 after he was pierced by a stingray barb while filming in the Great Barrier Reef.
Terri & Steve Irwin Had an Instant Connection
The two met in 1991 while Terri was on vacation in Australia and decided to visit a reptile park, according to the Australia Zoo.
Their was an instant connection between the two, as Terri Irwin told PEOPLE in February 2019.
“Right away we were talking about wildlife, and our passions in life and I kept thinking, ‘I wonder if this guy’s married,’” Terri Irwin recalled thinking at the time. “He said to me, ‘Would you like to meet my girlfriend, Sue?’ I tried to be cool about it, but I was devastated.”
But the story was far from over. Terri added, “Then he goes, ‘Hey Sue, Suey, come here.’ And his little dog came running around the corner. ‘This is my girlfriend, Sue,’ he said. I thought, ‘Yes!’”
The two ended up having two children: Bindi and Robert.
Bindi Irwin commented on her mom’s heartfelt anniversary post, “The best parents and true soul mates. Love you both beyond description.” She added a red heart emoji.
She also reposted the image to her Instagram story and added, “Happy Anniversary to my beautiful mum and dad.”
Terri Said She Already Had Her ‘Happily Ever After’
Terri Irwin has no plans of entering the dating again as she told Us Weekly in May 2024.
“I totally got my happily ever after,” she told the outlet.
While she noted there are a lot of men out there, no one will compare to her late husband.
“And while there are a lot of wonderful men in the world, can you see another Steve Irwin? I just can’t,” she continued. “I’d be like, ‘I love that you’re a librarian and the dude decimal system is cool, but I got to go jump a crocodile and do that.’ Forget that.”
