Most well known for his work on “The Devil Wears Prada,” “Conclave,” and “The Hunger Games,” actor Stanley Tucci, (who has been very open about his struggles over the years) has gone public with the news that his cancer treatments have caused an unexpected health issue.
The Unexpected Aftermath
In 2017, Tucci faced the ultimate fight when he was diagnosed with throat cancer. The treatment (intense radiation and chemotherapy) did its job, bringing him into remission. But, as anyone who’s faced something as tough as cancer knows, the aftermath can sometimes come back with a vengeance. While he survived the toughest part of the journey, what followed was a quieter, but still significant, side effect: his thyroid just couldn’t handle the radiation.
Tucci spoke candidly in a recent interview for “David Tennant Does a Podcast With…” about how the treatments left his thyroid struggling to do its job. The thyroid is crucial for regulating metabolism, and without it functioning properly, you can experience a range of issues; fatigue being one of the biggest. Tucci told Tennant, “I would be so tired in the afternoon, like completely exhausted by one o’clock.” He went on to explain how he “knew something was wrong” and (after testing) was told the cancer treatments had “burned out [his] thyroid.”
How He’s Keeping It Real
Tucci is “being treated with medication that replicates the function of his thyroid and is overall feeling a bit better,” according to E! News who spoke with the star. “It’s human, I still get [tired] in the afternoon,” Tucci said, “Literally, you can’t think, you can’t move. And once I started taking the pill, it made a huge difference. I want to get back to where I was.”
Through it all, Tucci seems to have kept his sense of humor and optimism intact. It’s no surprise that, even after a health setback like this, he remains a symbol of strength; proof that even in the face of challenges, one can still serve up a little bit of their usual flair.
His Upcoming Projects
And Stanley Tucci isn’t slowing down anytime soon. His most recent film, “The Electric State,” is already making waves, showcasing his incredible range in a sci-fi thriller. But that’s just the beginning. According to IMdB, Tucci is set to appear in the first episode of “Citadel” Season 2 as a character named Bernard Orlick. He will also be reprising his role as Nigel in “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” which at the time of this writing, is currently in pre-production.
Even with the challenges he’s faced, Tucci keeps pushing forward, proving that resilience isn’t just about bouncing back; it’s about continuing to do what you love.
